You can listen to it here.

‘Never Gonna Be’ is an upbeat, captivating and contemporary dance track with a killer catchy top-line. We caught up with the man to discuss his new release, and also spoke about the pros and cons of being 17 in this industry.

T.H.E – Welcome, Koen. How has 2017 started for you?

KVR – Good question, made me reflect on how the year started actually. To be honest, it’s quite crazy although the year just begun. So far I made an official remix for Lady Gaga and my debut single seems to be off to a good start, 2017 seems to be smiling at me. More music coming up!

T.H.E – For those not familiar with you as an artist, how would you describe your sound?

KVR – That’s such a difficult question to answer. It’s surely a poppy sound and I started out from deep house, my sound isn’t firmly grounded there, though. I try to use sounds in my production that just sound really nice to me and fit the song.

T.H.E – Your recent single ‘Never Gonna Be’ is out via disco:wax and features the singer Kaíva. How did that collaboration happen & how was the experience?

KVR – The label brought us together actually; to be honest I hadn’t heard of Kaíva prior to this collaboration. She did a good job on the vocals, though. Her voice is different, makes it interesting to listen to.

T.H.E – Your remix of Nathan Goshen’s ‘Thinking About It’ has had over 73 million streams. That’s amazing! Are you surprised by its success?

KVR – I really believed in the song, but the success it’s had is just incredible. Never saw that coming and I’m still enjoying it. There’s a lot happening right now that’s still due to the fact that I made that remix.

T.H.E – We are told you are only 17 years old. Do you think being so young has its advantages when it comes to your music career and relative success so far?

KVR – I just turned 17 last month, you forgot to congratulate me! Just kidding, I think it’s helped a lot so far. When I made the remix for ‘Thinking About It’ I was still 15 years old, Nathan Goshen came to Holland to do radio promo for the song together, he just kept on saying that he was doing nothing but sitting around when he was my age. People are usually quite surprised when they hear how old I am. On the downside I spend a lot of time in school instead of working on my music, luckily I learn a lot about producing there as well.

T.H.E – Do you play many instruments?

KVR – I play the piano, the guitar and I have a good sense of rhythm. Eventually, I’d like to learn to play a lot more instruments, for now, I mainly focus on producing songs, though.

T.H.E – What are your top 3 current tunes?

‘I Miss You’ – Grey

‘Something Just Like This’ – The Chainsmokers

‘Catch & Release’ – Matt Simons (Deepend Remix)

T.H.E – What do you have in store production wise and set for release 2017?

KVR – Nice try, but I’m not going to spoil the surprise just yet. I’ve been working on a lot of new music lately, both remixes and originals.

T.H.E – What do you like to do outside of the studio and away from music?

KVR – I loved playing soccer but eventually got a fairly serious injury. Turned out to be for the best, since that’s what caused me to spend more time producing and finally finish a song. That’s where my ‘Thinking About It’ remix came from. Most of the time nowadays is spent working on or listening to music. When I’m not in my studio I’m usually hanging out with friends, almost always doing something creative. I do some designing, filming and photography too.
