KANDY continues to break barriers and push the envelope by blending unique musical elements with his signature sound.

His genre-defying and gender-bending style has garnered massive attention from superstars.

To celebrate 8 Years Of T.H.E, KANDY shares 8 tips which he feels are important for upcoming producers.

1. WORK HARD EVERY DAY

When I first started making music I cut out everything else in my life that was in the way of making my dream a reality. I was making music every day to the point of forgetting to eat sometimes. My parents were concerned because I wasn’t leaving my room & I was staying in on weekends. My passion for music wouldn’t allow me to do anything else. If you keep hammering away at something, things will start to align for you.

2. HAVE THICK SKIN

In this industry it’s important to have thick skin & to take everything with a grain of salt. I’ve been told “no” more times than you could imagine but I’ve taken those “no’s” & worked harder to become better. Everything that puts you down should be taken as a learning experience.

3. MAKE GENUINE RELATIONSHIPS

Work hard to create genuine long lasting friendships with other artists; not friendships that are driven by career or materialistic gain. I’ve created genuine friendships with hundreds of people in the industry over the years & still maintain & cherish them to this day.

4. BE CONSISTENT

Due to social media, people these days get bored of things extremely fast. It’s important to be consistent with a release schedule while also maintaining content to post to keep your audience engaged & excited about your project. Have records lined up & ready for release this way you can focus on the other exciting parts of your project (photo shoots, video content, etc.)

5. FIND A TEAM PASSIONATE ABOUT YOU

It’s important to find someone passionate about your project that wants to grow WITH you. Someone to have your back & handle the business side of things so you can focus on the creative parts. Someone you can trust with your life & looks out for you when things get too hectic.

6. CREATE YOUR OWN LANE

For a while I was struggling to find what made me special & what made me stand out from the rest. After finding myself & coming out publicly I became a role model for the LGBT community in the dance music scene. I’ve strayed away from making bangers & started to make music that had more substance & stories that connected with me. If you don’t know what your lane is or where you fit, keep working hard & it will come to you.

7. SHOOT FOR LONGEVITY

It’s super important to maintain longevity in this industry & to constantly reinvent yourself. Don’t get discouraged when you see someone blow up out of nowhere because 9 times out of 10 their fall is just as fast as their rise. A slow & steady climb wins the race. Shoot to be one of the greats.

8. COLLABORATE

Finding other like-minded artists to collaborate with was a huge help for me. I learned a lot of things I would have never known how to do if it wasn’t for working with others. You never know what might come of it. Push yourself out of your comfort zone.

What do you think of these tips? Share them with your producer friends.
