To celebrate our 9th birthday, we caught up with Martin Jensen to discuss 9 topics that he wanted to talk about, including his favourite shows, hobbies, 2021 plans and more.

T.H.E – How has 2021 kicked off?

Martin Jensen – I’m super lucky as I’ve been able to continue on my ‘Me, Myself, Online’ live streams here in Copenhagen, but the main thing for me this year has been taking on my role as a judge on XFactor Denmark. I’m the first ever DJ to hold the position and to be able to be part of what is such a huge programme all across the world and help these exciting, fresh talents come through, is an amazing feeling.

T.H.E – New single “2019” seems to be inspired by the life before the lockdown. Personally speaking, how has lockdown been for you? Has it allowed you to be productive more than you usually are?

Martin Jensen – Yes, for me personally, but I understand it’s not been like that for everyone. We were pretty lucky to not experience some of the stronger restrictions that we saw other countries across Europe and the world facing, mainly because our Government took action pretty fast. As I said, XFactor has been my main project leading into this year but to also be able to get back into the studio on my downtime before we kicked off filming felt great, even just to take a step back from being constantly on tour, or in airports.

T.H.E – How have you managed to keep yourself inspired during the lockdown?

Martin Jensen – I’ve been keeping super busy, so planning ‘Me, Myself, Online’ has been a huge part of that, as well as being able to spend time with my girlfriend and brainstorm with my team for what was coming next. It’s been difficult to remain so proactive but I’m lucky to be able to have used this “downtime” and Corona times to my advantage.

T.H.E – How was it working with Georgia Ku on 2019?

Martin Jensen – So much fun! I love working with catchy, groovy vocalists and Georgia’s voice just fit the feel-good, care-free vibe of the track perfectly. I’m super pleased with how our collaboration turned out and hope that it gives people some light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel positivity that better days are coming!

T.H.E – How long was it in the works, and which sounds/artists inspired you during its creative process?

Martin Jensen – We’ve been working on the track for several months, inspired by the fact that better days are coming but we really came up with the track by crafting this catchy melody, and her vocal really encapsulated a grooving sound that I just loved when we brought all the elements together.

T.H.E – 3 artists that you currently look upto in the industry?

Martin Jensen – I would say I’m a big fan of Taylor Swift, she does it like no one else, as well as Calvin Harris and James Arthur – I still always say that when I worked with him on ‘Nobody’, that that is still one of my favourite releases I’ve ever done. He’s a truly inspirational guy, too, starting out on XFactor UK before building up his career and then exploding in America.

T.H.E – Outside of electronic music, what can we find you doing?

Martin Jensen – Late last year I opened up my taco bar in Copenhagen, Domingo. To be able to be a part of something away from music is important to me for my future, as well as the fact I’ve always wanted to be a restaurateur!

T.H.E – Favourite shows to watch

Martin Jensen – The XFactor! Whether that’s the UK version that has produced some brilliant global stars over the years, or the Danish one which I’m a judge on, it’s great!

T.H.E – Plans for 2021

Martin Jensen – Lots of new music coming soon – you can keep up to date with everything on my social media channels, as we’re also just preparing to release our super fun video for ‘2019’! Also, we have just announced our finalists for our XFactor live shows across out categories (myself and the other judges) – I’m super excited for what the next few months will bring and my guys are super talented, I’m going for the win!
