Review: Above & Beyond – Anjunabeats Volume 11

0

The annual Anjunabeats compilations have always been something to look forward to, for the kind of track selection and sheer quality of sound the trio put into the mix.

Volume 11 features some new releases of the Anjunabeats label, some unreleased tracks heard on Above and Beyond’s ABGT 50 live show last year and some tracks by artists like Jaytech and Oliver Smith along with some tracks by Betoko and Emma Louise.

The mix comp is split into two CD’s, with CD One comprising of some very interesting tracks by artists like Betoko who shows up here with his resurrection of the Chris Isaak classic ‘Wicked Games’ where he has implemented his style of house with some powerful bass. Also featured here is the Matt Lange with his remix of the delightful Above and Beyond track ‘Good For Me’, as well as his very own track ‘Staccato’. With the kind of hot form Matt has been in recently, it would have been surprising not to find a track or two by him here! Cid Inc’s ‘Rediscovered’ is one of the deeper tracks featured here, an interesting selection but it is simply beautiful. Parker and Hanson usually deliver with their tracks and Gravity is no different. It was one of the most awaited tracks on the disc and lived up to the hype with the sheer quality of production.

CD Two features by some of the biggest trance and progressive artists. Audien, who has created an immense reputation for himself with his superb productions time and again has his track ‘Hindsight’ featured here. Fan favourite Arty is also featured on this disc with his mindblowing remix for ‘Hey Now’ by sensational UK trip-hop trio London Grammar. Label legend Oliver Smith also shows up with his track Evermore. And the Ilan Bluestone remix of Above and Beyond’s classic ‘Satellite’ is also another brilliant track on the disc. Besides this, Above and Beyond also include their very own “On My Way To Mariana Heaven” and “Hello” on this disc.

Overall the mix has a little bit of everything you need. Some new artists, some established artists, some trance progressive and deep house, and what we get is a complete musical experience thanks to Anjunabeats!
