After a line of music events facing trouble over the last few months, including Ultra Miami and Coachella’s fire breakout, Electric Daisy Carnival has in many ways come out a winner for putting up a fantastic show!
Las Vegas was yet again a witness to 150000 ravers who were treated some of the finest music and grandest experiences this year.
The addition of Skrillex back into the line-up saw the many dance music fans’ faces light up and truly, the DJ played a set that catered to all kinds of music lovers – he was just having a good time being back to EDC and that was pretty evident.
The newlywed Idris Elba’s b2b set along with Solardo was an uplifting performance that showed the actor’s prowess in portraying his more recently acquired DJing skills. Also, as usual, EDC saw Paris Hilton even this year and was spotted a couple of times in the event. She sure seems to be picking up a thing or two from all the amazing acts at EDC, to benefit at her own outings as a DJ.
What seems to be the absolute highlight this year was the megaclub Hakassan’s transformation into an indoor electric sky! With a permanent kinetic installation that adorns the ceiling, Hakkasan has surely had its best make-over so far. The Kinetic Field – which is the mainstage, also was redesigned to suit the “Kinetic Energy” theme and made use of bionic human sculptures.
A slight confusion was caused when an evacuation order appeared on a few screens due to high winds. Although it was meant only for a few stages, people across many stages left the stages to seek shelter – only to be disappointed that it wasn’t necessary at all. However, they handled the situation beautifully, making swift changes on the go – which included re-booking RL Grime and Kaskade for a different time from the original.
Tiesto however, made use of the evacuation order and tweeted that his new single “Evacuation” was already causing a huge impact! There’s always space for humor, isn’t it? Talking of marketing, Insomniac also announced the EDC 2020 via a cleverly placed billboard on a highway outside Las Vegas.
In what was an unforgettable event, key decisions like moving it from June to May which saves the crowd from the summer heat truly stood out. In the end, it ended well with the fireworks that blasted out the alphabets E-D-C, leaving an everlasting impact yet again, forcing you to be back to witness the carnage “Under the Electric Sky”.
