Anna Straker’s recent single ‘London Knows’ heralded an exciting new era for the rising London artist.

With a fresh sound, unguarded emotions, and a new deal with Never Fade Records, the song earned Anna airplay from BBC Introducing and Jo Whiley at Radio 2.

Now Anna Straker’s new track ‘Good Days, Bad Days’ demonstrates that she’s embracing new-found artistry that’s as accomplished as it is unpredictable. The track is boosted by a feature from Gabrielle Aplin.

We spoke to her about how the track came about and learned more about her “Growing Pains” EP coming out in November 2020.

T.H.E – Hey Anna! Hope you are doing well. What have you been up to in this lockdown period?

Anna Straker – Hiiii! I’ve been watching I May Destroy You, writing loads of music with loads of incredible artists, released 2 singles and eaten my body weight in takeaways!

T.H.E – Your new single comes out in the first week of September. What is “Good Days, Bad Days” about?

Anna Straker – “Good Days Bad Days” is about mental health, and kind of appreciating the more difficult moments in your life as well as the amazing ones. Without the rain, you wouldn’t have the sunshine!

T.H.E – It’s heralded as the start of a new era for you. Why is it so, and what brought about this change?

Anna Straker – I hope this era will show a new side to me that is more honest, raw & real. I want an open conversation with my fans about what I’m going through and what I’m learning as I grow up. It was kind of kickstarted by a sexual assault that happened to me last year.

T.H.E – We also read that this song was inspired by a very tragic and disturbing incident that you had faced. Which artists if at all, did you look up to during this time when you created this track?

Anna Straker – I respect so many artists that share their journeys and experiences through their music, and I especially listen to artist like James Blake, Lykke Li, Sampha & Radiohead when I’m feeling emotional.

T.H.E – It will also be a part of your “Growing Pains” EP in November. What can fans expect from the EP?

Anna Straker – Growing Pains will delve into subjects of mental health, gender equality, relationship struggles, and recovery from trauma. It makes me so happy knowing my fans can go on these journeys with me and know that we’re not alone in these conquests. Whatever life throws at us we can talk and sing and dance about it!

T.H.E – Lastly, what are your plans for the rest of the year?

Anna Straker – Music, music, music! Hopefully, I can play some gigs as SOON as the venues are up and running again. Also I might dye my hair pink hehe.
