fleanger interview

Fleanger discusses how 2023 has been for him, background, why Berlin is a special place for electronic music and more.

Aditya – Hello, we’re glad to have you for this interview. How was the first quarter of this year for you?

Fleanger – The first quarter of the new year brought with it many new collaborations and made me open to more styles and remixes for artists that I really appreciate.

Aditya – Can you tell us about your background and how it has influenced your approach to music production and DJing?

Fleanger – As a child I was terribly closed and shy and in music I always allowed myself to open up and also my behaviour and my music making and my talk about music always made me behave differently , It started from my father and his great love for music and change in the 80’s mainly (a style I still listen to today) and my favourite band “DEPECHE MODE” which influences my music to this day.

Aditya – How did you end up in Berlin, and what makes the city such a special place for electronic music?

Fleanger – My immigration to Berlin is a story that started with me at the age of 14, I remember how in citizenship classes I would always dream of Berlin and move there. This city means a lot to the person I was in Israel and the person I am in Berlin are really two different people. The culture and art scene holds a place of honour among Berliners, along with electronic music, some of the best clubs in the world are located there.

Aditya – How do you stay connected to the Israeli music scene while living and working in Berlin, and what do you see as the key differences between the two scenes?

Fleanger – I am constantly updating my friends and colleagues who are still working in Israel but I think there is a big difference between the two places, in Berlin the scene is already built and mature and in Israel the scene is still under construction

Aditya – Could you tell us about what’s in the pipeline later this year for you?

Fleanger – This year, of course, there is a lot of new music in the future and also a special project that combines techno and deep house with an old Israeli artist that I really appreciate and has been signed to major European labels as well as remixes for internationally known artists.

Aditya – Who are your influences and why?

Fleanger – My main influences are “Pink Floyd” and “Depeche Mode” and in the more electronic scene I would say Avicii is one of those who influenced me a lot.

Aditya – ‘Don’t Know Me’ released on Hungry Koala records last year, has amassed over 100k streams. How do you feel about that?

Fleanger – I’m very excited to talk about this track because I didn’t imagine it would reach so many audiences in the world, this track was made from a place where I felt that no one really knows me but whoever hears this track will know me better

Aditya – In the past, you were the label manager at Joy Group. Could you tell us more on that front?

Fleanger – Working at Joy was an inseparable part of me (a period of 5 years) today I am almost 22 years old and I started my journey there at the age of 15 and went through the management of a label that was called “Inhale Records” which was the Tel Aviv home of techno and house and after a year I opened a sub label My example of downtempo and chill music that used to be called “hoTei Records” The management of both made me meet lots and lots of artists and make lots of connections and also learn about releasing music and its ascension to digital platforms

Aditya – What’s your studio setup like? Any specific gear/plugin you cannot work without?

Fleanger – Because most of my music is sounds that I make myself (synthesis) that’s why I think the plug-in I use the most is “Serum”.

Aditya – Lastly, who’s your favorite fim a and why?

Fleanger – I would say that “The Pursuit of Happiness” is my favourite movie because it always motivates me and makes me look at my life objectively.
