Scott the Pisces is an incredibly talented young producer, and he’s ready to showcase his talent with his debut EP ‘Ocean Blue’.
Infectiously catchy melodies, lyrics and vocal chops married with brilliantly produced pop music, Scott’s debut EP speaks volumes on the work he has put into creating this project. With the lead single ‘Perfect Summer’ featuring none other than Canadian pop star Aleesia — known for her single ‘Gold Skies’ with Martin Garrix — ‘Ocean Blue’ is set to take the airwaves by storm.
‘Ocean Blue’ is an exceptional combination of Scott’s production and songwriting, with a collaboration of brilliant artists redefining the next generation of pop music.
We caught up with Scott the Pisces to learn more about the upcoming debut EP, and his plans for 2021.
T.H.E – Hey Scott! Welcome to T.H.E – Music Essentials. How’s everything going?
Scott the Pisces – Thank you for having me! Everything is great, just preparing for the launch of my debut EP. It’s an exciting time for me, the start of a new adventure in my life if you will.
T.H.E – Super hyped up for your debut EP release – Ocean Blue, on the 5th March. How did it come about, and why did you feel now is the best time to release your EP, a debut one, nonetheless?
Scott the Pisces – Last year the pandemic lockdown hit just before my birthday, it put me through a whole bag of mixed emotions. It felt like everything anyone had planned for had been completely erased, including Summer. In response to this I decided I wanted to create a project which embodies all that we had missed during 2020. A soundtrack to the summer that we never had, and perhaps for future summers in general. I felt releasing in March was extremely important for me, it’s Pisces season after all. With the new name, it was the most intelligent thing to do. It also gives the music enough time to get out there right before summer.
T.H.E – Which artists or sounds inspired the EP?
Scott the Pisces – A whole plethora of artists, I would say the sound itself comes from the pop music we listened to during my childhood and teenage years. Artists like Katy Perry, Carly Rae Jepsen, Calvin Harris, and of course a splash of the modern sound with artists like Ariana Grande, Martin Garrix and the Chainsmokers. I feel like the EP really embodies a time period in my life, like a time capsule, when there were no worries and we lived care free.
T.H.E – What is the message behind Ocean Blue?
Scott the Pisces – Positivity, growth and being able to reminisce on the good times, knowing that they will come back around regardless of the circumstance you may be in. Last year this EP felt like a light in the dark for me, and I hope it can uplift others the same way. Each song has its own context and message of course, but I’ll mostly leave that up to the listen to relate to.
T.H.E – When did you start working on this one? How did the lockdown change the way you approach your production process?
Scott the Pisces – I believe it may have been late April when I made the decision that I wanted to rebrand myself under a new artist name, previously under Spectrum, and that led me to understanding that a debut EP may be the best way to get more content out immediately as a new artist, as opposed to just releasing singles like I had done with Spectrum. The first song I produced would have been Ocean Blue, as that became the title track of the EP. My production process remains quite similar to how it was, except now I’m a lot more judgemental about what elements stay, and which ones have to go. My perfectionist tendencies grew a lot more with the isolation that lockdown brought with it. I do prefer to start with drums these days when starting new projects, I find that getting the groove right first is most important. Giving me a strong foundation to lay down basslines and chord progressions.
T.H.E – Lastly, what’s next for Scott the Pisces? Any summer releases?
Scott the Pisces – Absolutely, I have a single I’m excited to talk about real soon! It’s a different direction for me for sure. Other than that, I’m just excited to see how things pan out with the EP, hopefully to get back to doing more shows. I’m also releasing the EP content ID free on youtube, so that it’s user friendly for all vloggers and content creators to use without worrying about pesky copyright claims. So I hope to hear my music as the soundtrack to some of their vlogs as summer approaches. Fingers crossed!
