Computa swings back around to unleash an untethered four-tracker called ‘Dark Data,’ a mayhem-inducing EP out on Bassrush Records.

At the end of October, the rapidly rising producer from Philly known as Computa uploaded the lead single from his debut EP on the Bassrush imprint with “32bit,” a mind-hacking dubstep single that fully showcased his ability to manufacture high-intensity bass made to overload the senses. Less than a month later, he’s now ready to short-circuit the system with the arrival of his four-track EP aptly titled, ‘Dark Data.’

Kicking off with the aforementioned lead cut, Computa follows up the effort with a new standalone number, as well as two frenetic collabs alongside two of his trusted colleagues. “BTB” sees Computa operating in solo mode, constructing a slow-burning shredder that makes great use of a pumped-up vocal insisting to “Bring that beat back” while he employs spiralling synth crashes that circumnavigate around grimey textures and a gang of digital bleeps and bloops darting around the crunchy walls of bass.

Next up, he handles business with the help of MATT DOE on “Move Like That,” which picks up the pace to move into a more upbeat playing field. Together, they concoct a wompy, wonky offering marked by headstrong riffs ripping through space before getting swept into an intricate arrangement of complex percussive patterns dotting themselves around wobbly synth squiggles, clanky fills, hyped-up vocal samples, and an energy that will have heads clutching onto the rails for dear life. Lastly, he closes out the affair on a high note by recruiting the melodic prowess of Orlando’s Slippy on “Hit It.” The final offering of the package split itself between ethereal chords that ring out with a cinematic flair until the introduction of high-flying horns enters the equation. Then, the whole mood shifts into trap-tinged territory where the two producers go berserk with an onslaught of growling lines and a crazy call-and-response landing in all the right places. From top to bottom, Computa synthesizes a digital-savvy sound that truly lives up to the alias he’s taken up.

“‘Dark Data’ is unstructured, untapped data that is yet to be processed or analyzed,” says Computa. “This music to me was all based around the tour I went on last year. I didn’t realize that I wanted ‘live’ music until I was playing live consistently. After months of perfection and working with some of my best buds, I came up with this collection of high energy tunes.”

His productions certainly translate seamlessly over to the dancefloor, with support flooding in from tastemakers such as 12th Planet, Wooli, Hekler, Blunts and Blondes, and Ganja White Night. He’s stepping up his game on the live tip, with an opening slot lined up on the Bassrush-hosted Park N’ Rave party headlined by Ganja White Night. Computa’s release schedule has taken been highly active in recent memory, with releases locked with Wakaan, Subsidia, SubCarbon and Disciple Round Table. Computa continues to prove he’s not a name to take lightly within the world of dubstep.
