Bristolian Stephen Redmore, known through his drum & bass alias Mako, has finally unleashed his new LP on Metalheadz, something which he’s been working on behind the scenes for some time.

The label head of Utopia is well known for his slick production and penchant for underground anthems, something which has been seen again and again on his own imprint, as well as across a plethora of labels which have acted as pillars for the drum & bass world.

Directly translated to ‘a body of art’, Mako’s LP ‘Oeuvre’ is representative of his life’s work in music production. To celebrate its release, he’s given us a selection of the tracks which have inspired his production. Take a look below, and don’t forget to check out his brand-new album.

1. Whitney Houston – I wanna dance with somebody

The go to birthday song. Such a voice. Gets me dancing b2b crying every time.

2. Luther Vandross – Never too much

This makes me dance like nothing else. The energy and movement are sick.

3. Rhythm and Sound – King of my Empire

Wonderful meditative dub dance flavours.

4. Goldie – Sea of Tears

This has inspired me in most of my music, especially the breakdown where he uses dolphins, waves and poignant vocals.

5. Curtis Mayfield – Pusherman

I love soul funk vibes, especially this one, the lyrics and groove all sit nicely. The percussion is off the chain.

6. Barry White – I’m gonna love you just a little more baby

Who says dance can’t be sexy! This one, one of Barry’s best in my opinion.

7. Soul 2 Soul – Back to life

One of the ultimate dance tunes, you must have heard of this one, right?

8. George Benson – Give Me the Night

Love this, I am a sucker for this kind of stuff.

9. Big L, Mcgruff and Mase – Dangerzone

Had to include some Big L as he always makes me dance. Shouts out to my hip hop lovers.

10. Slum Village – Fall in Love

The motive kills me, ‘dont sell yourself to fall in love’. Such wisdom in a lyric.
