Canadian producer Miles Away and American vocalist Danni Carra reveal their latest indie dance collaboration “Back to Sleep” releasing on November 9, 2022.
It is about the comfort we seek in our dreams from our real life issues, the way we want to escape to an easier space where we can forget
our problems.
After listening to Danni’s vocals on SLANDER’s single “Getting Late”, Miles Away reached out to Danni for a writing session together. Surprisingly discovering they had a shared love of indie electronic artists such as San Holo and ayokay. They explored making a song in a similar vein.
An experimental and vast departure from his usual melodic bass style, Miles Away teamed up with Danni to create the laid back and dreamy indie dance ballad “Back to Sleep”. The lyric video is set to premiere on Wave Music on its release.
Miles Away is a vocalist and electronic producer from Vancouver, Canada. He first garnered attention with his string of successful remixes including his remix of Halsey’s “Without Me” with Nurko that has received over 42 million streams to date on YouTube alone. Miles Away went on to release his debut self-titled EP on label Lowly Palace which received millions of streams across platforms. He followed up his EP with a string of independent records in which he released his biggest hit “Bring Me Back” featuring fellow Canadian vocalist Claire Ridgely.
The single has reached over 3 million streams on Spotify and millions across other streaming platforms. Following this success Miles Away was nominated as “Electronic/Dance Artist of the Year” in the Western Canadian Music Awards in 2020. He has released music with notable artists Besomorph, Nurko, ARMNHMR, Olaf Blackwood and more.
He has also released records with labels Sony Music Japan, Dim Mak, Lowly Palace, Proximity, and more.

Devin Belanger from Miles Away tells us about the creation of the single: “After Danni and I wrote the vocal over a rough but intimate guitar and piano track, we loved how raw and authentic the track sounded. With the production, I wanted to keep that same ephemeral and fragile energy while taking the beat up to where we needed it to go, so I consciously designed my synth sounds and samples to be dusty and old sounding, while still retaining punch to drive the energy forward. Many of these lofi samples are also recordings of my own voice chopped up to make percussive loops, atmospheres and more. In addition, Danni chopped up her voice too, to layer in the drop. Even the synth sounds, recorded mainly on my OB-6, all have a wiry and warm living sound to them. By using as many organic sounds like this as possible, we tried to bring out the overall feeling of an electronic track that represents the very human emotion of wishing you could do over moments of your life in your dreams.”
Danni Carra tells us about the creation of the single: “Sometimes a dream can feel so real that you don’t know if what went on actually happened. In these dreams, the comfort of its realness can completely make worries go away even when the issue at heart did not. Back to Sleep is the space between real life and our dreams. The space where we’d rather find our way back to when our hearts ache. We can easily fix what’s broken in our dreams but facing it when we wake up only feels worse.”
