Back by popular demand, Truth x Lies is making another crucial appearance on Insomniac’s IN / ROTATION catalog with an indispensable three-track EP aptly titled ‘Essential.’

Based out of New York City, Truth x Lies is the brain trust powered by two tech house-touting counterparts, Ian Bertles and Ryan Howard. The dichotomous duo has proven to be anything but two-dimensional over the years, as evidenced by their unyielding desire to keep their artistic direction both brutally honest and ever evolving.

They honored that commitment on the ‘Other Side’ EP, a double-sided effort that saw them pulling back on the veil to offer the dancefloor a peek into a decidedly darker reality to their club-focused proclivities. A year down the line now, and the boys ready to shake off the shelter-in-place mentality with a follow-up release celebrating the loosening up of restrictions.

The title cut is in the business of party-starting, with its head-down rhythm and thumping bounce fully qualified to clock in some serious overtime. “Like This” takes over like a boss, as in-charge vocal refrains keep the hype in check with the help of shuffling percussion, whirring one-shots, hissing hats, wonky punctuations

, and a playful vibe that refuses to quit. Covering the closing shift is “Do It Right,” another highly qualified staffer specializing in the bouncy department. Strutting basslines and contagiously confident vocal loops command the space flawlessly, while wacky fills and quirky stabs show you how to turn having a good time into a full-time job.

“We did something a little different for the ‘Essential’ EP,” says Truth x Lies. “Our goal was to show our range while still making sure that all of the tunes really sounded like us. Each track has its own focus. Essential is a club banger that has a message; ‘Like This’ is a sub-heavy tune with hints of old-school house; and ‘Do It Right’ lives firmly on the weirder side of tech house. Much love to everyone who’s listened, and to the IN/RO team for believing in the records!”

From beginning to end, the ‘Essential EP’ shows Truth x Lies employing three hard-working tech house jams that are impossible to replace.
