Pop music’s biggest breakout act of the year, artist/producer duo The Chainsmokers, have topped the chart with their single ‘Closer’ ft Halsey on both the UK’s official chart and the Billboard Hot 100.

Selling almost 250K copies since it was first released at the end of July the track has beaten Major Lazer’s ‘Cold Water’ and DJ Snake’s ‘Let Me Love You’ to the top spot.

The track marks their third to make the chart’s Top 20 this year, following “Don’t Let Me Down” which reached #2 and “Roses” at #16.

They said: “The success of Closer reaching number one is not only proof of concept of what we have coming up – which makes us super confident, but it also makes us really bloody excited for the UK to hear our upcoming songs.”
“Closer,” which features vocals from rising star Halsey and the duo’s own Drew Taggart, is currently sitting at #1 the UK iTunes chart, Shazam, Spotify, VEVO and has amassed over 147million streams globally.

The track reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, where it is also sitting at #1 on the iTunes chart.
