Festivals and live events have slowly but steadily made a return and a lot of them have been hosted by the mammoth AEG Presents which is also responsible for Coachella.
The company has hosted more than a dozen events in the past couple of months and the executives at the company have decided to reverse Coachella’s initial vaccination mandate for attendees.
Attendees at Coachella 2022 will now be able to provide a negative Covid-19 test result taken within 72 hours prior to the event. In an Instagram story posted earlier this month, they said, “After seeing first-hand the low transmission data and successful implementation of safety protocols at our other festivals this past month, we feel confident that we can update our health policy” to allow for negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the event or proof of full vaccination.”
Further explaining why they turned back on the initial announcement made by AEG Presents at the beginning of the month saying all fans attending events produced by the company would need to show proof of full vaccination, company CEO Jay Marciano said, “We have come to the conclusion that, as a market leader, it was up to us to take a real stand on vaccination status.”
He went on to say, “Just a few weeks ago, we were optimistic about where our business, and country, were heading. The Delta variant, combined with vaccine hesitancy, is pushing us in the wrong direction again. We realize that some people might look at this as a dramatic step, but it’s the right one. We also are aware that there might be some initial pushback, but I’m confident and hopeful that, at the end of the day, we will be on the right side of history and doing what’s best for artists, fans, and live event workers.”
After being postponed three times now, Coachella 2022 is set to take place from April 15-17th and April 22-24th, 2022 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. This edition is set to be hedlined by Travis Scott, Rage Against the Machine and after the latest announcement, Swedish House Mafia.
