Coachella was quick to postpone their event set to happen in April to October 2020, but from the looks of it, that might now not be possible.

The festival has currently been pushed to the weekends of October 9th and October 16th. But since the decision to postpone was made when little was known about the coronavirus and the long-drawn impacts, the company might now be re-evaluating that decision.

Bloomberg reported that according to people familiar with the matter, The organizers of the Coachella music festival are asking artists lined up for the annual event to play in 2021 instead. If this, in fact, happens to be true, there couldn’t be a clearer indication of the 2020 edition getting axed and pushed to 2021 altogether.

As per their reports from sources, not every performer from the 2020 lineup that was set to be originally headlined by Rage Against the Machine, Travis Scott and Frank Ocean have been asked to play in 2021 and on the flip side, not all who have been asked have consented to it yet due to the uncertainties and health and financial reasons.

After the amount of devastation that the global pandemic has brought, especially in the United States which alone has now seen over 100,000 deaths in just the last couple of months, most promoters are looking to 2021 as the earliest festivals will be able to make a comeback. Live Nation Entertainment Inc., the world’s largest concert promoter, has targeted summer 2021 for festivals to return.

Line Nation’s CEO Michael Rapino on a call in with analysts in early May said, “We believe 2021 can return to show volume and fan attendance at levels consistent with what we’ve seen in recent years.”

AEG which is the parent company of Goldenvoice, the teams behind Coachella, are the second-largest promoters of live events, right after Live Nation. And it goes without saying that financially, Coachella is definitely their concert divisions money maker. But in these times whether 2020 will even be possible from a public health perspective remains to be seen.

There have been no official announcements as yet, we will be updating this piece as information becomes available.
