Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you must be aware of the viral Facebook event started by a college student from California calling to “Storm Area 51: They Can’t Stop All of Us.”

Area 51 is the common name of a highly classified United States Air Force facility located in the highly-classified remote detachment of Edwards Air Force Base, near Rachel, Nevada, where conspiracy theorists believe UFO spacecraft and alien technology are kept.

Matty Roberts, the man behind the event has issued a number of statements after the event he jokingly created went so viral that over a million people said they were attending or interested. The event had close to 3 million people who said they will attend, and more than 8.9 million viewed and showed interest. The growing numbers sparked cause of concern and there were also official statements from the Air Force warning of the consequences were this to really happen. Speaking to ABC News on last Thursday, Air Force spokesperson Laura McAndrews said in a statement: “The United States Air Force is aware of the Facebook post. The Nevada Test and Training Range is an area where the Air Force tests and trains combat aircraft. As a matter of practice, we do not discuss specific security measures, but any attempt to illegally access military installations or military training areas is dangerous.”

Realizing the gravity of the matter, Roberts decided to issue official statements clarifying it was a joke and how dangerous matter could be. But he also decided to cash in on the attention at the moment to propose an EDM festival in the area instead of the raid. Starting off by expressing concern for anyone who was actually taking the matter seriously, he laughed and told KERO-TV “Please don’t, I don’t want anyone to actually get hurt with this. It was just — it started out as just from a pure stroke of imagination. It was meant to be funny. I want to do something cool out there, now that we have a bunch of people, but I don’t want anybody to get hurt.”

Roberts went on to express how he and friends now want to create an event, a music festival to create and morph an out-of-this-world experience for their followers.

“I want to make it like a festival of sorts. I want to have a bunch of different musical artists, everybody from the EDM world and then maybe some indie rock, maybe some smaller guys that are up and coming. I’ve had a lot of people DM’ing the page saying their bands want to play there, which would be super cool,” Roberts said.

He also took it a step forward saying he was already in touch with local inns near Area 51 who tell him they are already booked for their scheduled exploration of the Air Force facility in Nevada on September 20, with an anime twist.

Also, he doesn’t seem to be the only one keen on the idea. Roberts claims musicians and bands are equally interested in the possibility of an Area 51-themed music festival saying, “I’ve had a lot of people DM’ing the page saying their bands want to play there, which would be super cool.”

Whether this is a publicity stunt or will become an actual reality remains to be seen. But something we know for sure is he will have a number of producers and DJ’s ready to perform if the event were at all to happen. Diplo being himself was already early to jump onto the bandwagon before the plan of the festival even came around.

Fans even pulled REZZ into the conversation saying they were surprised how the Spacemom didn’t get this gig before Diplo and she chimed right in.

After recent rumors of a Jack Ü reunion, of course, his fans brought Skrillex into the mix too.
