Dutch Festivals have begun rescheduling en masse from seemingly impossible Spring dates to early Autumn dates being hopeful that by then we will be able to return to a certain degree of normalcy and return to enjoy live music events in person.
This was in part encouraged by a governmental support measure put into effect by the Dutch government. The €300 million insurance scheme which was announced last month, now has a proposed commencement date of June 2021. This has led and motivated a large number of festivals to push events into the second half of the year.
The government announced along with the plans of this return that it will insure events planned to be held after this date that have to be cancelled due to Covid-19. The minimum requirement will be that the events attract at least 3000 visitors and if so the insurance program will make them eligible to seek up to 80% of their capital losses in the event regulators force them to reschedule due to the coronavirus.
As reported by Mixmag, Dutch culture minister Ingrid van Engelshoven said it is not “reasonable” to expect “masses can stand close together on a field” before that time speaking about the June-July 2021 time line.
Adding to that she said, “[This fund] is a dot on the horizon for festival organizers. They can fall back on the guarantee fund in which at least €300m has been reserved. The event industry has long come to a standstill due to Corona. Guarantee is needed to get it back on track.”
A number of major music festivals that usually take place through the Spring into early Summer have already announced they will be postponing their dates to take advantage of being covered by this fund.
While Awakenings has been pushed to September 11 and 12, DGTL Amsterdam has also announced plans to run through the same dates at the NSDM Docklands. A bunch of other festivals such as Paaspop, Dauwpop and Utrecht Central Park Festivals as well followed suit by pushing their more towards September of this year.
Another major event set to happen in the region is the ASOT1000 celebration being held in early September in Utrecht, which sold a massive 55,000 tickets in just 4 hours.
