Starting April 8, applications will open for live venues, museums, theatres, and other entertainment spaces that have had to remain shuttered due to Covid-19, to gain assistance through the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG).
The $16.25 billion grant is aimed at providing aid to eligible venues operational no later than February 29, 2020, and had a 25% or greater reduction in revenue over the course of the pandemic. Applicants are eligible to apply for 45% of their gross earned revenue, with a maximum single grant award of up to $10 million. $2 billion of the fund is reserved for eligible applicants with up to 50 full-time employees.
Applications will need to be made on the Small Business Administration (SBA) portal and before that the businesses will need to register on the US government website System for Award Management (SAM).
One year into the pandemic and since these venues were forced to shutter down, help in some form finally seems to be on the way.
Speaking about the efforts, SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman said,
“Help is here for venue operators hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. The SBA has worked diligently to build the Shuttered Venue Operators Grant program from the ground up to assist and address the diverse eligibility requirements of each type of applicant and we will open for applications on April 8.
She went on to say, “The SBA knows these venues are critical to America’s economy and understands how hard they’ve been impacted, as they were among the first to shutter. This vital economic aid will provide a much-needed lifeline for live venues, museums, movie theatres, and many more.”
While venues are slowly gaining permissions for limited capacity openings across the United States, just like everything else, how successfully these re-openings will continue remains to be seen.
