Effective from October 4, 2021, Live Nation will require proof of vaccination or a Negative Covid test at all festivals, events, and venues. In addition, all employees must also be fully vaccinated by the same date.
Artists, crew members, and attendees alike will all be required to meet these standards and provide the required proof or a negative result.
Live Nation president and CEO Michael Rapino said in a statement as reported by Rolling Stone, “Vaccines are going to be your ticket back to shows.
As of October 4th we will be following the model we developed for Lollapalooza and requiring this for artists, fans, and employees at Live Nation venues and festivals everywhere possible in the US.”
While they initially started by giving artists the choice on whether to mandate vaccinations for attendees or not, they soon pivoted to mandating it wherever it was permitted by the law, the company said.
All Live Nation employees will also be required to be fully vaccinated by October 4th to visit any of the companies offices, event spaces, or venues.
Finding success with this model of operation during Lollapalooza, a spokesperson told NBC News, “Twelve percent of fans said Lolla was actually their reason for getting vaccinated – which is a huge number with 400k attendees throughout the weekend.”
Explaining how the strategy was a success, Dr. Allison Arwady, commissioner of the Chicago Department of Public Health, shared that Chicago has traced back 203 total COVID-19 cases linked to Lollapalooza attendance.
When the report was released on August 11, not a single hospitalization or death stemming from attendance had been reported. This was definitely a positive statistic since an estimated 400,000 people attended the event in Chicago.
In a recent earnings call, Rapino said, “The momentum for the return to live events has been building every month with ticket sales and concert attendance pacing faster than expected, underscoring the strength and resiliency of the concert business and live events in general.”
With the slow but steady return of events in the United States being put into danger with the rampantly spreading Delta variant, more measures like this have become important and necessary to try and keep events from coming to a screeching halt once again.
