These two Mayors from cities in the UK are planning a DJ battle to raise funds for community groups and other organizations that have been affected by the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent shutdowns.

The Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham and Liverpool Metro Mayor Steve Rotheram will be going head to head on June 13 to determine which of the two cities has produced the best music, in addition to raising funds for charity.

The DJ battle will be streamed on the United We Stream site here.

While the friendly battle already has the two coming at each other, as reported by BBC (Link – https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-52938442 )Rotheram came touting Liverpool’s global status as the home of The Beatles, and said his DJ set would cement Liverpool’s place as the “centre of the known musical universe”.

Burnham wasn’t about to take it lying down though, and hit back saying, “Let’s face it if we had excluded music from the 1960s there would be no contest.” He also goes on to say, “Competition aside, music unites both city regions and the show promises to be an amazing celebration. We hope it will bring people together at a difficult time and raise funds for important causes at both ends of the M62.”

Each mayor is set to play an hour-long set which is set to contain classic tracks from the Merseybeat and Madchester eras as well as a selection of recent hits. The United We Stream website has already raised £400,000 for organizations in Greater Manchester since the coronavirus lockdown began in March.

The live stream will be available to watch and donate at on United We Stream. Viewers will also have a chance on the stream to vote for which of the two Mayors they think is better, the votes will be cast in the comments while making a donation.
