Richie Hawtin Announces Ph.D. Scholarship In Electronic Music With Huddersfield University

The Richie Hawtin Scholarship in Electronic Music, Cultures and Production is a Ph.D. Scholarship program that Richie Hawtin is offering along with the University of Huddersfield, which is where he also received his Honorary Doctorate in 2015.

Applications are open from now until February 27th, for the fully paid for scholarship to the program that is set to start in September 2023. The Huddersfield University is one of the world’s highest-ranked educational facilities for music production and research. The winning Applicant for the scholarship will be selected by the university and Richie Hawtin himself who will also be providing tutorial support.

As per the University’s official site in the call for applicants, they shared that the scholarship is open to “applicants engaged in research on any subject related to electronic music cultures or production, including studies on electronic dance music or club cultures.”

In the social media announcement Hawtin shared his purpose behind the program saying, “My hope is to offer my experience and insight into the many areas of Techno culture which I’ve been involved in over the past thirty years. To assist in a student’s exploration of the past and inner workings of our industry and help them offer new critical analysis from a contemporary perspective.”
