With an aim at celebrating the idea of how “normal” has been thrown out the window, Spotify’s 2021 celebrates “the millions of weird and wonderful ways to listen and live in a world that continues to keep us on our toes.”
In this process, they unveiled the top artists, albums, songs, podcasts, and more that defined how more than 381 million people around the world listened and discovered audio.
While listeners got personalized lists, Spotify also shared the global chart-toppers. Puerto Rican star Bad Bunny took the prestigious most-streamed artist for the second year in a row, and this year he topped 9.1 billion streams without even dropping a new album in 2021. When it came to the global top songs of 2021, Olivia Rodrigo lead the pack with “drivers license” with an additional entry at the fourth spot for “good 4 u.” Lil Nas X, The Kid Laroi, and Dua Lipa rounded up the top five globally streamed songs.
Featuring multiple times over the listings, Olivia Rodrigo also took the top spot for the most-streamed album globally for “SOUR.” Dua Lipa came in second for “Future Nostalgia”, and Justin Bieber’s “Justice” took the third spot. Ed Sheeran and Doja Cat respectively rounded out the list for their recent albums this year.
In addition to the global lists, the personalized Wrapped hub is on the front page for each listener to explore. The data-driven and editorially curated list include – Your top songs 2021, Your Artists, the Best new podcasts, and more including a 2021 Wrapped Blend playlist.
This however wasn’t only personalized for the listeners, artists and content creators also got their Spotify stats for 2021 covering their number of streams, listeners, and the countries from where fans were listening in from.
