Yes! The 90’s rave culture is coming of age with the film ‘Beats’, which will hit theatres in the UK and Ireland on May 17.

The film is produced by Steven Soderbergh and is directed by Brian Welsh. He also directed ‘Black Mirror’. This coming of age film is co-written by Brian Welsh and Kieran Hurley and is set in the summer of 1994 of Scotland. The film follows two friends who love the party scene and takes you through the rave culture with its narrative.

If you have not seen the nail-biting trailer, you must see it before you have a FOMO.

Time Out said the trailer is a ‘hands-on joy ride’, which the trailer confirms with its cinematography and soundtrack. The soundtrack includes tracks from Carl Craig, Leftfield, The Prodigy, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Plastikman, LFO, Hudson Mohawke, Orbital and The Belleville.

Apart from the soundtrack, the two exuberant ravers who are making a debut with this flick are Cristian Ortega and Lorn Macdonald. They share a deep friendship that you will see evolving through the film and through the first footage reveal of ‘Beats’.

You will see the duo spending the summer of 1994 together by living it up and raving and also participating in the UK’s counter-cultural youth movement.

‘Beats’ has already been premiered at the Rotterdam Film Festival, and will soon be screening at the Dublin International Film Festival and the Glasgow Film Festival before it finally releases in the UK and Ireland on May 17th.

Like the radio Jockey in the film says – ‘This is my revolution listeners, I dearly hope you make it yours too. Join us!’ in celebrating the rave of the UK with ‘Beats’ on May 17th.

Can we hear an ‘Oye Oye’?
