What we were fearing all day as Ultra representatives met with officials from the City of Miami seems to now be inevitable.

While there has been no official statement yet from either the City or from Ultra representatives, city officials have revealed that a decision has been made and once they iron out some legal issues, the official announcement will be made by Ultra on Friday morning.

Before the meeting, this morning, Mayor Francis Suarez and Commissioner Joe Carollo had revealed to the press that they were calling not to cancel but to postpone the event due to concerns over the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

While there has been no official statement, as of this afternoon artists including Martin Garrix and David Guetta have removed their Ultra performances from their schedules and listed tour dates. If this wasn’t an indicator enough that a huge announcement will follow artists like Zedd, DJ Snake and Marshmello have taken to twitter to express how upset they are over the eminent cancellation of the 2020 edition of Ultra Miami.

While city officials are talking about ‘postponing’ the festival, this may mean postponing it a whole year till 2021, which essentially equates to the festival being canceled in 2020. Sources with knowledge of the deal from both sides told the Miami Herald (link – https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/downtown-miami/article240878956.html ) which reasserted this. This would be the first time in 21 years since 1999 that Ultra Music Festival would not take place in Miami were the cancellation to happen.

The reactions from attendees on twitter have been drastically varied. While most have expressed how upset they are and how the city is ‘overreacting’, others are applauding them for taking ht precautions and being ahead of it. There have also been a bunch of legit concerns being raised that since people book their hotels and flights months in advance, Miami might still just see a large influx of people even if Ultra is canceled, thanks to Miami Music Week and their travel plans.

Ultra Music Festival is due to take place March 20-22,2020 at Bayfront Park Miami until further notice or any formal cancellation. The official website is in fact still selling tickets to the event which at this point is already 90% sold out!

We will update this article once there is an official statement from Ultra.
