A sensational Day Two had set up the stage perfectly for a cracking finish to Ultra Music Festival on Day Three, with World No. 1 Hardwell’s festival-closing set being the most anticipated set. All eyes were also on Armin van Buuren’s ASOT 650 Tour Closing Event on its very own stage at Ultra, replacing the Carl Cox and Friends Stage which played on Day One and Two.
Example and Chase and Status were the biggest names on the Live Stage and they did justice to their reputations by putting up a stellar show on the stage, delighting the thousands of fans who flocked to the Ultra Live Stage.
The UMF Worldwide Stage had less popular but equally powerful performers as the Main Stage, and anybody who witnessed the action at this stage would not be disappointed. Dutch DJ Sandro Silva delivered an ‘epic’ performance before ‘Countdown’ and ‘Revolution’ hitmaker MAKJ took over and gave the crowd what was a Mainstage worthy performance, and it would be sad if he doesn’t get a Mainstage slot next year.
Spanish wonderkid Danny Avila also took Ultra by storm, with a cracking set just like he played last year.
Gareth Emery blew the roof off the place with a delightful set consisting of some Gareth Emery classics, some of his new tunes like ‘Lights and Thunder’ and some bangers like ‘We Like To Party’.
Fedde Le Grand closed the stage and he’s never one to let the energy drop, as he played some sensational mashups and all some big room tunes, even dropping his new track currently called ‘Lost In City of Lights’.
At the Mainstage the action and energy kept going on and on with festival favourites Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano dropped some lethal tunes, including their very own remix of Under Control, their Beatport number one ‘S.O.T.U’ and their new track ‘One Life’.
Sander van Doorn was his usual self as he danced the Miami heat away dropping his new track ‘Guitar Tune’ to much cheer from the crowd, the new Alvaro track ‘Shades’, his new track with Martin Garrix and DVBBS, and also tunes like ‘Direct Dizko’, ‘ Helicopter’ and Ummet Ozcan’s remix of ‘Neon’.
The article would be incomplete without a mention for the party people Jack U, the Skrillex and Diplo side project. Many described it as their best set of the festival, and it was definitely one of the most memorable ones, after all you have to expect some mental energy when you bring Diplo and Srillex together!
Afrojack was next, taking us through his new album ‘Forget The World’ , dropping his massive collaborations with Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa, while also belting out some of his older and very popular tunes like ‘Take Over Control’.
Steve Angello’s set had new music written all over it as he dropped ID tracks left right centre, and there is a lot of seriously good music coming from him soon.
David Guetta was up next and he completely smashed it in his set. Playing some of his new music from his upcoming album, Guetta thrilled fans by dropping some of his recent remixes like ‘Addicted To You’ and ‘Animals’, he also played his recent singles ‘BAD’ and ‘Shot Me Down’ along with some older tracks like ‘Metropolis’, ‘Titanium’ and ‘Memories’ and for some reason a lot of Alesso music, like ‘Under Control’, his remix of ‘Titanium’ and the new track Alesso opened his own set with.
Over at the ASOT 650 stage performers had the trance loving crowd thrilled, with super energetic performances by Orjan Nilsen, Andrew Rayel and Myon and Shane 54, before the much awaited GAIA took over, and Armin along with Benno De Goeji from Rank 1 turned up in a leather hoodie, after telling his fans to expect some ‘leather’, in an interview after his solo set the previous day. He played a set full of GAIA and classic Armin van Buuren tunes, a total trance affair.
Ferry Corsten and Marcus Schulz were there too, in their new avatar ‘New World Punx’.
Paul van Dyk was his explosive self as he closed out the stage with a stellar set that even included a couple of ID tracks.
Closing Ultra Music Festival 2014 was the World’s No.1 DJ Hardwell, who was catapulted to unimaginable success last year following a breath-taking set at ULTRA 2013, which featured a total of 12 ID tracks, some released as recently as last month. The YouTube video of the set already has crossed a million likes and it is the most watched Tracklist in the last week. Very little needs to be said about a man who continues to surprise fans with groovy new music and crazy live performances. Even as sweat poured down his face, Hardwell continued to jump in happiness and nothing could wipe that childish smile and excitement off his face, a sign of a man very happy with the work he’s doing. He threw down another bunch of ID tracks, probably from an upcoming album he confessed he was working on, and there were more memorable moments like when he played his remix of Armin van Buuren’s Ping Pong, and when he mashed up Young and Beautiful with his latest release ‘Everybody Is In The Place’.
Ultra has already announced dates for next year amidst opposition from Miami City, and we hope the music doesn’t stop! Here are some live sets from Day 3 of Ultra Music Festival 2014 for you to relive and enjoy!
