Nick Van House and Left/Right are joining forces on a striking collab titled “Forget About It,” featuring a lush topline from Denitia, on Insomniac’s house-centric imprint IN / ROTATION.

Hailing from Dallas, Nick Van House is a celebrated creative type who has spent years behind the lens capturing powerful portraits of people from all walks of life. However, his keen eye as a photographer has gotten some fierce competition from his own ears, as the eclectic producer has been known to swap out his camera every now and again to bring his artistic visions to life in the studio. For the better part of a decade, he’s dabbled in dreamy synthpop, emotional trap music, and electro-hued house, while always keeping his options open in terms of genres he chooses to pursue. He’s now teaming up with another established name in the hotbed scene in Dallas, Chris Lund—better known as Left/Right and the founder of the Broken Music Syndicate collective—,who has proven without a hint of hesitation that he knows his way around a meticulously constructed broken rhythm. The long-time friends and age-old studio pals have been polishing up an idea Van House has been sitting on for a hot minute, one that Lund gravitated towards the moment he heard it.

“Forget About It” is a masterclass act in crafting breaks but draws closer to crossover territory through a stunning feature from the Brooklyn-based cinematic alt-pop songstress, Denitia. Her velvety vocal tones add an unmistakable character to the piece, with some special pitch treatment enacted at pivotal points throughout the track’s run. Bubbling underneath the delivery she pulls off with great conviction is a buoyant beat etched with club-ready house elements from the ‘90s, stabbing synth progressions, rumbling bottom-end, tightly wound percussive hits, sustained chords, and the ubiquitous “woos” thrown in to seal the deal. The end result is bouncy breakbeat number laced with an air of familiarity that is ironically impossible to forget about it when all is said and done.

“So glad we got together on this track,” says Left/Right. “It was a long time coming and excited for it to come out and excited for this to be my fifth release with IN / ROTATION.”

Lund has been a consistent force on the imprint since it was first conceived, with his presence being traced back all the way into 2017 when he seeded his left-of-center sound via the remarkable three-track ‘Bloom’ EP. He’s never strayed too far away after the fact, either, returning to the stable periodically with follow-ups arriving in the form of his “Down” single alongside Dirtybrid regular Steve Darko, his double-headed ‘Hyper’ EP with fellow Dallas sensation Isenberg, and most recently on the ‘Rotate Vol. 5’ compilation by way of the proggy-tinged cut “Change.” Left/Right has remained on the forefront of bass-driven music for years on end, and his latest track with Nick Van House and singer Denitia adds a radio-friendly dimension without diverting too far away from the underground.
