The United States of America is burning, literally and figuratively, as we report this.
Protests and riots have been erupting across the country after videos surfaced of the inhumane death of George Floyd by four officers from the Minneapolis Police Department.
At the heart of the protests was what began on May 25. In what was later reconstructed from videos from bystanders, security cameras, etc Minneapolis police officers arrested George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, after a deli employee called 911, accusing him of buying cigarettes with a counterfeit $20 bill. In just seventeen mins from then, Floyd lay on the ground handcuffed and lifeless.
The day after Mr. Floyd’s death, the Police Department fired all four of the officers involved in the episode, and on last Friday the Hennepin County Attorney, Mike Freeman, announced murder and manslaughter charges against Derek Chauvin, the officer who was seen most clearly in witness videos pinning Mr. Floyd to the ground.

As reported by Variety, a message circulated widely on Instagram and other social media platforms on Friday evening of last week called for “a day to disconnect from work and reconnect without community” and “an urgent step of action to provoke accountability and change.” Under the hashtag #THESHOWMUSTBEPAUSED, The sentiment of the posts, taking responsibility as “gatekeepers of the culture,” is one dozen of companies took to heart in the hours after violence broke out in Minneapolis and other cities across the U.S. The called for pause which gained immense support is set to be held on Tuesday, June 2.
