Making a welcome return, Paul Schulze now unveils a new collaboration with British singer-songwriter & top-liner Sam Welch.

‘In Front Of You’ is an emotive deep house cut, featuring expressive lyrics coupled with Paul’s trademark production. A heavy hitting follow-up from their previous single ‘Shadows’, Paul Schulze & Sam Welch continue expanding their close collaboration & touch down with another sure-fire player.

We caught up with both artists to discuss their latest collaboration, musical influences and more.

T.H.E – Paul & Sam, we wish you a warm welcome to T.H.E – Music Essentials! Where in the world can our readers find you both currently?

Paul Schulze – Hey guys, thanks for having us! I’m based in Hannover/Hamburg currently. Most of my sessions are happening either in London or Berlin, so I’m travelling a lot as well.

Sam Welch – I’m based Plymouth which is right down in the south of the UK. But I’m spending a lot of time in London and Amsterdam at the moment.

T.H.E – Congratulations on the release of ‘In Front Of You’, at what point did production first commence on the record?

Paul Schulze – Sam sent me the idea for the song last year in August and the vocals instantly resonated with me, so I jumped on the track and finalized the production. It was an instant fit.

Sam Welch – I came up with a rough idea for a track and got some lyrics together that I was really feeling. Paul and I had worked together a fair bit earlier in the year and we really liked what each of us where bringing to the table.

So, I approached Paul to see if he would like to develop the idea. He loved it and made something really special.

T.H.E – How long did the single take to complete, from planning stages to the finished track?

Paul Schulze – The process was very fast for this song, it took about a week for the song to be almost finished, then we did a few revisions and worked on some last details for some time to make sure the song feels just right. I always send my songs to some of my close producer friends for their opinion & feedback which helps a lot to get different perspectives especially when you have already heard the song for so many times

T.H.E – How did you both first meet & when was it exactly?

Paul Schulze – We were introduced by Tom Enzy who is a producer we have both worked with. Then a few months later we hung out at ADE and had a great time over there.

T.H.E – Paul, with your home country of Germany known for many leading dance artists, who influences you most musically?

Paul Schulze – The sound of Berlin based label Selected. inspired me a lot in terms of sound design and arrangement. Another crucial influence musically was my time living in London. As Sam already mentioned, the music scene is quite different and I’d say the combination of both the German and UK influences can be found throughout my music.

T.H.E – And Sam, with London & the UK a hotbed for talent, how much does the scene there inspire you?

Sam Welch – As I mentioned I’m not actually Iiving in London, I spent about 8 years there before moving back to my home town recently. I love that there so much going on in London music wise. The UK dance music scene is very different that of mainland Europe. It has a much grittier/dirty feel to it. I’m a huge fan of the UK sound and I think that is where a lot of my inspiration comes from.

T.H.E – Are there plans for remixes of ‘In Front Of You’ to follow?

Paul Schulze – Right now, there are no plans to release remixes of the song as we want to give the attention to the original version first. Maybe that will happen later though.

T.H.E – And lastly, is there any other exclusive news you can share with our readers?

Paul Schulze – I just signed another song with one of my favorite labels Selected. which will drop soon.

Sam Welch – I can happily say that I’ve just secured a publishing deal with the amazing CTM entertainment who are based in Amsterdam and I’m super excited to get the ball rolling with them and see what new exciting things are coming in the future :)
