Super talented singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, not forgetting DJ and producer, Joshua Kierkegaard G Steele, has risen through the ranks cementing himself as one of the biggest names in the dubstep music scene to date. You probably know him better as Flux Pavilion and he is our “Artist Of The Month” for September 2015.

Born in Towcester, UK, Joshua had begun his musical journey at a young age, learning to play the keyboard at six years old and in his later years playing in rock bands. Growing up with Doctor P and Trolley Snatcha, these three started experimenting on Reason, making their first electronic productions.

Joshua was never really into dance music to begin with as he felt at the time it was “uncool”, more for the outcasts and he never felt like he belonged in that world. Not even knowing what dubstep was until university when he attended a party that played a mix by Rusko and Caspa. The match was struck but was only set alight a week later when he saw Rusko play live at Fabric in London, forever caught by the infectious sounds of dubstep. A day or so later armed with the influences of Rusko, The Prodigy and Basement Jaxx, The Chemical Brothers to name a few, Joshua had started producing his very first dubstep inspired tracks, from which “Flux Pavilion” was born.

The year was 2008, Joshua had released “Cheap Crisps” and “How Dare You” garnering much support online. Pushing aside his ambitions of becoming a music teacher, from here on Flux was signed to top class labels such as Rottun, Shift, XS Records, Stupid Fly, Dubmented Beats etc. Collaborating with childhood friends Doctor P and Trolley Snatcha in earlier productions – “Air Raid” and “Steppa” respectively back in 2009. In the same year, Flux was featured on the Boom EP alongside Rottun Recordings’ label boss Excision and Datsik as well as Nuke ‘Em EP again working with Datsik and Tom Encore & Redline.

In 2009 Flux extended his niche and founded Circus Records with Doctor P, Drum & Bass legend Swan-E and Earl Falconer of UB40. Responsible for honing talent such as Cookie Monsta, Funtcase, Trolley Snatcha etc to the dubstep mainstream.

Already making major leaps with his aggressive sounds, Flux’s mainstream breakthrough came in 2010 with the release of “I Can’t Stop” from Lines In Wax EP. His best known track to date which featured on the soundtrack of the Stop Kony 2012 viral video, the 2012 video game SSX, 2013’s “The Great Gatsby” movie and the trailer for “Rush” by Ron Howard. “I Can’t Stop” was sampled by Jay Z and Kanye West on “Who Gon’ Stop Me” for their album “Watch The Throne”.

From 2010 onwards, things only picked up for Flux. In 2011 “Bass Canon” peaked at no. 59 on the UK Singles chart and at no. 9 on the UK Dance Charts, claiming a place in the BBC R1’s A-List.

Not slowing things down, in the same year Flux and Doctor P’s joint effort on “Superbad” sizzled danced charts. 2012 saw the release of “Daydreamer” featuring Example, making it another hit under Flux’s belt.

Adding to the catalogue of dance floor smashes was “Jah No Partial” with Major Lazer. Going into 2013 Flux released Blow The Roof EP and Freeway EP, both receiving favourable remarks from fans and critics.

Adding to the list of achievements “Double Edge” featured on the 2012 video game “Need For Speed: Most wanted”.
