British DJ and producer Alex Zed has led a long and chequered history in the dance music domain.
His latest endeavours, however, have really got tongues wagging. The head honcho at the Inside Out label, Zed has presided over a time whereby the imprint has grown to become one of the scene’s most consistent in the tech-house sphere. On Zed’s latest, he perks up on Inside Out for a release that’s very much on the money from the outset.
It all starts off with ‘Over My Head’, a potent partystarter that makes sumptuous use of some bittersweet vocal flourishes, with the latter coming at us from the talented voice of Billie Fountain. Full of twists and turns aplenty, it’s a seductive dancefloor killer that’ll go down a treat. Elsewhere, ‘Has Fidanken’ ups the ante thanks to its relentless kicks and an underbelly of warm, textured beats. Sure to have bodies heaving in unison on the floor, it’s the sort of expert track that neatly joins the dots between deep and tech house. Last up is the unpredictable charms of ‘Black Lines’, an ominous sounding effort that’s not for the feint of heart. Beguiling but haunting, it’s the sort of foreboding track that’ll make perfect sense when the night’s atmosphere is at its most fervent. A stunning collection of tracks from start to finish, Inside Out’s latest offers conclusive proof that this is a label moving in the right direction.
