Preview of the new Bougenvilla ‘Take It Back’ as premiered by Oliver Heldens in his Heldeep Radio show! Out now on SPRS!
Bringing dance music as an ever evolving DJ act, today Dutch duo Bougenvilla releases its new single ‘Take It Back’. Safe to say, it resembles their goal to unite underground sounds with mainstage energy; cool grooves with raw bass lines -never falling for the same trick twice. With the support of tastemaker jocks like Don Diablo, Ummet Ozcan and Oliver Heldens (who couldn’t wait to premiere it last month) it looks like Bougenvilla has another hit in its hands.
‘Take It Back’ hasn’t come out of nowhere. Producing music for a while now, Bougenvilla quickly caught the attention of Spinnin’ Records last year, followed by Tiësto, who signed the duo to his Musical Freedom imprint, where they released the Marc MacRowland collab ‘Voodooz’ early 2015. With the support of the label boss as well as DJs like Martin Garrix, W&W, Sander van Doorn and Steve Aoki, the duo’s name was set.
Meanwhile, moving between mainstage electro sounds and deeper house grooves, Bougenvilla has created a niche of its own. The recent release of ‘Homeless’ (a housey take on the eponymous 90s dance classic) underlined this, gaining support from artists like Oliver Heldens, Pete Tong, Bakermat and Larry Tee.
‘Take It Back’ elaborates on this, taking off with an invigorating house groove before the bass drops and it’s all mainstage energy. “We’ve been playing more and more mainstage recently”, Shefida Nagel, one of the Bougenvilla guys, admits. “So we felt we needed a track that resembles that energy, without losing the house flow we love so much. “
After the stage provided inspiration, things were quickly settled in the studio. “We work really fast when producing, don’t wait too long with sounds or things happening. This way the energy is always maintained, almost as if we’re doing it live.”
After the track was finished, good friend Oliver Heldens liked it so much he asked the guys if he could premiere it in his radio show. “Which wasn’t a problem of course”, Shefida laughs. “After that things started rolling; we sent the record to SPRS along with Oliver’s approval, and that was all it took. You could say this track represents our sound the best to date; a deep groove with heavy effects, that’s how we like it.”
