Artist of the Month - Afrojack_4

If there is one artist in the dance music industry who is a true baller and exemplifies the word superstar, it would happen to be our artist of the month. Perennially in the news for his fancy cars, dirty beats and his relationships with singers and hotel heiresses’, it is the one and only Nick van de Wall, better known as Afrojack.

Popular for his typical dirty beats that have rocked dance floors and music charts, tracks like “Take Over Control”, “Rock The House” and “Jack That Body” have made him an edm superstar. However, there is also a more melodic and progressive side to Afrojack that he has only recently explored, with remixes like “Sovereign Light Café” and tracks like the international superhit “The Spark”. His upcoming album “Forget The World” completely captures this side of Afrojack with his single “Ten Feet Tall” also featured on the album becoming an instant rage already, and his Ultra Miami 2014 set featuring a lot of the tracks from the album, getting a highly positive response.

Exploring sounds with his early career releases like “B Sided”, and “Three Stars”, Afrojack went on to develop a sound unique to him, and started plastering dance floors all over the world with this sound. 2009 was a particularly eventful year for Nick, as he remixed Sidney Samson’s classic “Riverside”, Steve Angello’s “Show Me Love”, mentor and good friend David Guetta’s “Sexy Bitch” and a few other Tech House remixes, before completely shifting his focus to Progressive and Electro House. 2010 gave him two massive hits, “Pacha on Acid” and “Bangduck”, still considered to be one of his better productions. He also remixed EDM Classic “Satisfaction” and David Guetta’s collaboration with Rihanna “Who’s That Chick”, with some other releases like “Ghettoblaster”, “Quacky” and “A Msterdamn”. Afrojack made his debut on the DJ Mag Top 100 at #19, the highest new entry that year.

If 2009 and 2010 got Afrojack noticed, 2011 catapulted him to new heights of success, with superhits like “Prutaataa”, and the Tomorrowland 2011 anthem “The Way We See The World” before “Lionheart”, his edit of “Sending My Love” , and unarguably his most successful collaboration ever, “No Beef” with Steve Aoki. He also collaborated with David Guetta on “Lunar”, which was featured on Disc Two of Guetta’s “Nothing But The Beat”, and Pitbull’s worldwide viral club hit “Give Me Everything” also featuring Ne-Yo and Nayer. It also took Afrojack to the Top 10 of DJ Mag- A career peak of #7.

The following year saw more action from the DJ, who takes pride in his fancy Lamborghini cars, and he premiered a new track at Ultra Miami 2012. The track in question was “Rock The House”, which went atop Beatport in 2 days, and is probably his most successful track to date. He also released his collaboration with fellow dutchmen Shermanology, a track called “Can’t Stop Me”, which became an instant rage, and was one of the biggest club anthems that year. His remixes of “Hands High”, “Beat Down” and “Sovereign Light Café” in particular were also smash hits. He also released another track called “Annie’s Theme”, which featured the typical Afrojack sound. He fell two places to #9 on DJ Mag.

In 2013 Afrojack released the official Ultra Miami anthem “Air Guitar”, and a collaboration with Chris Brown called “As Your Friend”, before releasing an EP called “It’s a Matter of …”, which featured smash hit singles “Ray Bomb”, and “Rocker”. He then went on to release a festival favourite tune “Jack That Body” and two new tracks “Musician” and “The Spark” which reached the Top 10 in 9 countries, along with a remix of Miley Cyrus’s hit “Wrecking Ball”. He remained at #9 on DJ Mag.

In 2014 his single “Ten Feet Tall” from his upcoming album “Forget The World” was given a Superbowl spot, with over 100 million viewers worldwide. The track is already a massive hit and has received remix treatment from Quintino and David Guetta. His remix for 30 Seconds To Mars’ track “Do or Die” along with his “Sovereign Light Café” are the two remixes that will be featured on the album. “Keep Our Love Alive” featuring stunning and soothing vocals by Matthew Koma, one of the tracks Nick has been playing everywhere from Sunburn Goa to Ultra Miami is also featured on the album. Afrojack has also collaborated with Wiz Khalifa for a hard hitting track “Too Wild” and has even turned to trap in his collaboration with legendary Snoop Dogg titled “Dynamite”. “Born to Run” featuring Tyler Glenn has a fantastic vibe to it. “Catch Tomorrow” featuring Sting is probably the track to watch out for from this album, with the unbelievably powerful vocals lifting the track to a whole new level. His album is scheduled to release May 19.

Here’s wishing our Artist of The Month May 2014,the versatile and talented DJ and producer Afrojack a very successful 2014.
