Review: Cosmic Gate – Start To Feel

0

Cosmic Gate have hit the bullseye with this beauty of an album. After their previous two disappointing efforts, they’ve finally managed to get their groove back. A lot of things have been done right, starting with the album title – Start To Feel is an album with a very high ‘feel’ quotient. The message is simple – Trance must not only be heard, it must also be felt.

The feel begins with the first track ‘Happiness’. It’s a simple feel good track, that will lift your spirits up, and Cosmic Gate have executed it perfectly. It’s the ideal track to begin the day with, and like the album title suggests, you’ll start to feel it with this track.

What starts with Happiness is taken one step ahead with ‘Falling Back’. Eric Lumiere carries the song through, and the combination of his vocals and Cosmic Gate’s controlled yet amazing drop are what make the song special. The lyrics are well written and this song is bound to be stuck in your head on repeated listening.

‘Fair Game’ is a catchy tune and the firebrand that is Orjan Nilsen collaborates with Cosmic Gate to give us this monster of a track that you just want to listen to over and over again. The tune is infectious and the racing drop will get you losing your mind on the dancefloor.

Kristina Antuna is featured on the track ‘Alone’. It’s another beautiful combination of touching vocals and a well crafted drop that complements the fantastic vocals. You can feel the vibes all over this track and it keeps up with the theme of the album.

The super talented Emma Hewitt lends her perfect voice to ‘Going Home’. The piano melody and Emma’s vocals get the feel and emotions going, and it ends up becoming one of the better tracks of this album. It’s certain that the track is made for some remix treatment, and don’t be surprised to hear some uplifting remixes of this beautiful track.

‘Tormeta’ featuring KhoMha is very different from the rest of the tracks on the album, and it’s a refreshing change to hear some of the groovy progressive sounds on the album as well. It’s almost as if this song was meant to have the rave feel. The build up is sublime, and the drop is absolutely mental. Armin van Buuren called the track ‘amazing’, so it must really be quite a track!

Immensely talented producer Alexander Popov is also featured on the album, with the very impressive ‘Shine Forever’, which has a superb bassline and will do really well in a live set. It also gets some help from the vocals by Jannika, which offer a new dimension with the subtler melodic drop that follows after the vocals.

‘Yai’ is another monstrous track and the three minute build up leads to a massive drop that will get you jumping wherever you are listening to the track. The track has a great scope to feature in live sets and the crowd will rage whenever this track drops.

The album comes a full circle, covering all the sounds you’d want to hear in different moods. Cosmic Gate make a smashing return, and what a remarkable effort. This an album you simply cannot miss.
