Review: Stoneface & Terminal – Be Different

1

German Trance duo, Stoneface & Terminal, last gave us an album in 2007, and are back now with their second effort “Be Different”, that took more than a year to make. Read on to see what we felt about the tracks in their latest offering.

Stoneface-Terminal

“For You” is their second collaboration with Ellie Lawson, who had collaborated with the duo years ago on the superb track “Breaking Through”. Ellie wrote this soulful track during her pregnancy, and it’s got some beautiful words and Stoneface & Terminal’s light yet super effective melody along with a lovingly uplifting drop gives the track the extra positive vibes it deserves. It’s a fine track that Ellie Lawson shines in with her magical voice. A special mention for this track.

“Alive” is the perfect track when you want to close your eyes and recall pleasant memories, or listen to when staring at an endless scenery. Its one of those peaceful tracks that would help you escape reality and float away into a dream world. It just lets your emotions flow very freely. The track was featured on ASOT 671 as well.

“One Heart” clubs pleasant vocals and a heavy drop to give you an out and out dance track. It’s a track you’ll really enjoy letting yourself go on. Pretty much the perfect track to drop at a club night or a festival set and hit the dance floor. It barely has a dull moment and the vocals are also thoroughly enjoyable. Wonderfully produced track.

When you have artists like Stoneface & Terminal and Kyau & Albert collaborating on a track it is bound to be huge. “We Own The Night” lives up to the hype and is a banging track. It will totally rip your speakers with its gorgeous bassline and there’s even some vocals by Albert thrown in there that are absolutely beautiful. One of the tracks that will instantly transform a dull party into a happening rave.

“Yuma” is all soul. It’s a beautiful rendition, one of the tracks where the duo have just expressed the artist in them. Also featured on this track are Ronski Speed & Synthea. The hard drop and the contrasting smooth melody combine to make the track wonderful to listen to. Definitely one of the best tracks on the album.

“Travellers” takes on a variety of styles – be it techy sounds or trance or even some progressive elements, and comes out on top. It’s a lovely blend of various sounds and the end product is really good. With stunning breaks and groovy drops this track is one to watch out for in the album. Its an instrumental tune where Stoneface & Terminal have seemed to challenge themselves and they’ve pulled it off convincingly.

These are just some of the tracks on the album we had to talk about. The album has tracks covering various styles and that makes it one of those albums where everyone can claim a different “favourite” track off the album. With great collaborations and cutting edge productions pushing their artistic boundaries, Stoneface and Terminal nail this album and it will go on to be one of their most significant achievements.

Available on Beatport.
