Alexander Popov has been a leading figure within trance music, ever since the start of his musical career, back in 2007.

His unique and open-minded sound carved him a way to the top, while simultaneously winning the support and respect of fans and colleagues alike.

Now, not even two years after the release of his first studio album ‘Personal Way’ in November 2013, Alexander Popov is back with ‘Interplay’, a product of his unprecedented love for music. T.H.E – Hi Alexander, firstly congratulations on the announcement of your compilation, “Interplay”. It’s not even been two years, since the release of your first album, “Personal Way” back in November 2013. How did the idea of this compilation come about?

Alexander Popov – Thank you! I started to think about it after the album release as the next step, and last summer started my own radioshow/podcast called ‘Interplay’, now it is the brand that I want to develop and compilation has the same name.

T.H.E – Your radio show is called “Interplay” as well. Tell us the significance behind the title, “Interplay”. What message do you want to give your fans via this compilation?

Alexander Popov – I think absolutely everything is interconnected in this world and all elements interact in life like people and the music, that is the basic idea of the name ‘Interplay’, I want to connect with the people through my music vision to share my thoughts and passion.

T.H.E – The compilation features your stunning collaboration with Cosmic Gate & Jannika, “Shine Forever”. Tell us the story behind this collab. How did this come about?

Alexander Popov – We decided to collaborate when we played together on ADE. I had an instrumental idea that I wanted to use on my album but there was a problem with the vocals and these guys found another strong topline for the track and made some editions. The entire process took around two months.

T.H.E – You played at the “Talent Stage” during ASOT700 at Utrecht. How was the experience of playing at one of the global celebration tours of Armin van Buuren’s, “A State Of Trance” radio show?

Alexander Popov – That was awesome! The event is huge, it’s definitely the biggest trance festival in the world at the moment, always a big pleasure for me to play on A State Of Trance!

T.H.E – Speaking of radio shows, you have your own radio show called, “Interplay”. Can we expect something similar in terms of celebration tours from you as well in the future?

Alexander Popov – Like I said my plan is to build and develop ‘Interplay’ brand and I hope in the future, it will be not only be a radioshow and a compilation, but also some club parties and maybe even a festival.

T.H.E – How does it feel to be one of Russia’s most popular trance exports?

Alexander Popov – I’m happy to do what I love and I know there are a lot of talented guys in Russia so I hope you’ll hear some new hot Russian artists soon!

T.H.E – Which software do you use for producing music? Is there any production tip you would like to share with your fans?

Alexander Popov – I’m use Steinberg Cubase and software synthesizers like Spire, Massive, Sylenth. My general production tips are: believe only your ears and music taste, focus on the idea and often test your production comparing to your favorite tracks.

T.H.E – Do you have a studio or are you used to doing everything on the laptop?

Alexander Popov – I have a studio at home and prefer to work on my desktop as it’s more comfortable for me, but sometimes I work on my laptop when I’m touring.

T.H.E – Whom do you feel is doing really well at the moment? Any particular artists/tracks that you feel deserve more recognition?

Alexander Popov – I like productions by Mark Sixma and Andrew Bayer at the moment. In terms of upcoming guys, I think Arston is on fire!

T.H.E – What can we expect from Alexander Popov for the rest of 2015?

Alexander Popov – After the compilation release, there are some exciting collaborations on the way like the one with Andrew Rayel. I also made few big remixes for guys like Armin Van Buuren and Cosmic Gate, and ofcourse my own tracks!

T.H.E – Thank you Alexander for this interview. Good luck with everything.
