T.H.E Interview – Hermit Sethi

If you haven’t heard of Submerge (which we really doubt!), let us give you a brief introduction about one of India’s leading dance music portals.

Submerge first began in 2003. It was because there was no alternative to the mainstream. No matter where you went, you got the same old music and the same tired experience.

Hence, they created a night devoted to the music that they wanted to hear and move to. The plan was to play fresh and innovative music from the global club scene because that’s they were into. It wasn’t about catering to the masses; it was about being on the cutting-edge of music, and delivering an experience that was fun and unique.

After more than a decade of actively revolutionizing the dance music scene in India, Submerge has always proven to be about the musical experience, with the best dance music from across the world, brought to you by the best DJs on the planet, hosted all over India.

As if to enforce what they are all about, Submerge recently announced the CYCLES tour with Max Graham. the last time Max was in India as part of his Re*brand Records tour along with Protoculture, we had loads of fun and experienced what Submerge likes to call, a slice of electronic awesomeness!

So needless to say when we heard the news, we couldn’t wait to get more information on the role that Submerge played in getting Max Graham and his CYCLES tour to India. And to provide answers to our questions, who better than the director of Submerge, Hermit Sethi. :)

T.H.E – Hey Hermit! How are you? Where are you currently while you are taking this interview?

Hermit Sethi – Well, I just got back to Office after a short holiday for my Birthday. A much needed break and respite from the Bombay heat!

T.H.E – We would like to start the interview by telling you how great a job you and the rest of the Submerge team are doing. That’s something which was proved recently by the announcement of the “CYCLES” tour with Max Graham. How did this come about?

Hermit Sethi – We’ve had a long relationship and been an important part of of the growth of Max Graham in India, We like it when artists come up with new concept nights and when Max’s agent wrote to us about this we were very delighted to host the India edition like we hosted “Ultra Resistance – Nic Fanculli around the world in India”.

T.H.E – Max Graham’s sets are mostly known to create a diverse and captivating flow of music. How does Submerge plan to use this in its aim to continue to revolutionize the dance music scene in India?

Hermit Sethi – We’re always looking to bring down different musical experiences for the dance music fans in India and this will be one of those tours that would bring the community even closer through a shared experience.

T.H.E – We are sure the last time Max was in India, it was a great experience for everyone who witnessed him live. Apart from a great experience again (we are quite sure of that!), what else can fans expect from the tour this time?

Hermit Sethi – The last time we hosted Max Graham was as a part of the ‘Re-Brand’ Tour with Protoculture. The tour was a really successful one and we had a great turn out in all the cities!

T.H.E – What can fans expect from the production of the show?

Hermit Sethi – Well, we arent doing anything special in-terms of Production as most of these are club shows so there are limitations. We have an experience to provide when it comes to the music that Max has to offer. He’s diverse and there is a lot we can expect musically!

T.H.E – We are quite sure that you listen to Max quite a lot yourself. If you had to describe your top 5 tracks by Max, which ones would it be?

Hermit Sethi – If I had to pick my favourite 5, they would be..Nothing Else Matters, The Evil ID, Sun in the Winter, Lekker and Purple!

T.H.E – The CYCLES tour with Max will definitely prove to be another feather in the cap for Submerge. After the success that was Ultra Worldwide with Nic Fanciulli and now the CYCLES tour, we are sure our readers would want to know what else have Submerge got planned for dance music fans in India.

Hermit Sethi – Frankly, we don’t plan so much ahead and in-advance most of things come to a surprise to us and we happily get ready to host the same, so lets see whats going to hit us next. However we are very excited to host the Indian edition of Corona Sunsets edition in India which will run through 8 cities and over 12 events.

T.H.E – Lastly, we are sure something this big wouldn’t have been delivered by a single person. Hence, are there any shoutouts you would like to add?

Hermit Sethi – Firstly I’d like to thank Max Graham for always giving us the first chance to deliver his shows in India, the amazing fans who always tag him, tweet to him asking when he is coming next to India and lastly my lovely hardworking team at Submerge who pull this off together!

T.H.E – Thanks a ton Hermit. Wish you the very best in all your future endeavors.
