Without a doubt, young Ukrainian DJ/producer Omnia is one of the most exciting and fast-rising names to emerge from the progressive & trance scenes this past 18 months. He recently leapt into the Top 50 in the prestigious DJ Magazine Top 100 DJs poll, coming in at #48.
T.H.E – Music Encyclopedia managed to catch up with exciting young Ukranian DJ/Producer, Omnia! Check out our exclusive interview below where he talks about what hooked him into Trance, the artists who have influenced his music and his time in India!
T.H.E – How did you get hooked on to trance?
Omnia – First of all Armin van Buuren had a huge influence on me. And when I first heard his ‘A State Of Trance’ radio-show I immediately fell in love with this music. I wanted to make my music also sounded in this radio show. So I focused on creating trance tracks.
T.H.E – Did you ever imagine your track ‘The Fusion’ getting the kind of response it did?
Omnia – Track was an absolute experimentation. And it was very difficult to make any predictions. So I’m glad everything turned out that way. People want to hear something bold and fresh these days.
T.H.E – Which DJs have inspired your music? Whom did you listen to a lot while you were creating your own sound?
Omnia – First names who brought me into the electronic music were The Chemical Brothers & The Prodigy in late 90’s. Then I’ve realised that i want to create my own music. But if we talk about names in trance music it was Andy Moor, Markus Schulz, Gareth Emery, Ferry Corsten, Paul van Dyk.
T.H.E – With the staggering number of awards electronic artists grabbed at the Grammy’s, do you think electronic music is finally stepping out of the shadows of other genres and becoming a dominant force?
Omnia – Yeah! Undoubtedly separation of musical styles today is very blurred. Pop singer seeking cooperation with well-known DJs. And at the same time electronic musician certainly interesting to master such large audiences.
T.H.E – One young artist who according to you is a future superstar?
Omnia – Oh it’s really hard to choose only one name. As there are a lot of young guys with crazy ideas and great music. For example recently I heard amazing d’n’b tunes from young names ‘Fred V & Grafix’. Absolutely amazing! Or for example ‘Arston’! Last year i’ve been playing his track ‘Zodiac’ on every show! Stunning tune!
T.H.E – Can we expect an Omnia album anytime soon?
Omnia – I have a lot of ideas for my album and already few track ideas which is a bit different from usual Omnia sound. But anyway right now i’m trying to be focused on single releases. So I want to wait with album a bit!
T.H.E – How important do you think it is for an artist to innovate and grow over time, to constantly keep doing something outside their comfort zone?
Omnia – Yeah it’s very important. Innovations are very important in music today as we can see that a lot of big artists making tracks with the same samples, rhytms, sounds. But actually people want to hear something new everytime. And for young artists today it’s only one way. If you want to express yourself you have to show people something unique and bright!
T.H.E – You’ve visited India before. How was the experience? Do we get to see you again anytime soon?
Omnia – I really hope so! I’ve met a lot of my great fans there last year when i’ve been touring in 4 cities last year. So India is very special country for me!
T.H.E – What can we expect from Omnia in 2014-15?
Omnia – New music & shows! :)
