Electrifying with Mixmash icon Laidback Luke, Sandro Silva filled a gap in the dance music world, lead in a solid electronic direction by the main man while blasting his natural talent. Owning breakthrough status on Pete Tong’s Essential Selection show with ‘Prom Night’ saw the track blow up as Essential Choice followed by buzz from dance music legends Eric Prydz, David Guetta, Sebastian Ingrosso and Tiesto. His track ‘Epic’, a collaboration with Quintino released on Musical Freedom grabbed YouTube with over 15 million views, crashing charts globally and hitting platinum in Holland and Gold in Belgium.

We caught up with Sandro Silva where the Dutch DJ spoke about the story behind his name, his “Epic” collaboration with Quintino, working with Arston on “Symphony”, getting support from Laidback Luke and plenty more! Happy Reading. :)

T.H.E – Tell us the story behind the name, “Sandro Silva”. Who were your early musical influences, and how did you end up on the scene at the age of 16?

Sandro Silva – The name came up when I was 15/16 when I started to release my own tracks on labels. I had to come up with a cool name so after a brainstorm session with my dad we came up with Silva. My first releases under the name Sandro Silva were on Bart B More’s label Secure Recordings and Laidback Luke’s Mixmash Records. From there I started building my career to where it is now.

T.H.E – How much of a help has Laidback Luke been, be it Djing or production?

Sandro Silva – A lot, especially setting up a solid base for my career. He took me under his wing in the beginning of my career and I got the chance to play big shows with him. It helped me a lot to be the dj I’am now. Really grateful for that.

T.H.E – Tell us how your collaboration with Quintino, “Epic” came about! A lot of tracks these days have a similar sound to “Epic”. What are your thoughts on this?

Sandro Silva – Yes, it was a game changer and that’s exactly what I hoped for. I see it as a huge compliment that a lot of guys took over that epic sound in their sets and productions.

T.H.E – When do you think is the right time for an artist to experiment with genres? Is it something we can expect from you in the near future?

Sandro Silva – I think you should always experiment with new sounds and genres. I always try to go for something different with each track I do. There is no point in doing the same sound every single time.

T.H.E – Miraj and Symphony are two very different tracks, do you make it a point to do something you’ve never done before , when making a new track?

Sandro Silva – Yes, like I said in the previous question I always try to experiment with new sounds and stuff. So every ‘Silva’ record is different because I love to change it up every time. Gives me so much more satisfaction.

T.H.E – How was it working with Arston on Symphony? Getting a release on Revealed Recordings is certainly a big deal. How has the response to the track been? How did it feel to have a release on Revealed Recordings?

Sandro Silva – The impact was and is still very huge. Arston is really talented and I’m happy that we did this track together. Releasing on Revealed is a big deal for a lot of guys because it can set u on the radar big time. Almost every release they do hit the charts!

T.H.E – Can we expect an album anytime soon?

Sandro Silva – I hope in a couple years, because it’s on my bucket list. Still have to figure out what kind of album it would be, If I’m going to do one.

T.H.E – What are your thoughts on the Ghost Producing issue?

Sandro Silva – It’s your own choice to do or to not do it. I’m not a big fan of it, because producing music is an art, and It’s a part of being a DJ nowadays. If u do it, you should come clean and tell everyone about it. There is no point in lying about it right?

T.H.E – You had an India tour in April earlier this year, how did that go?

Sandro Silva – Loved it, it was my first ‘India’ experience. I think India is gonna be such a big market in the near future for artists like me.

T.H.E – What would be your tip to all upcoming DJs/Producers?

Sandro Silva – Be humble, do what you love to do and stay true to yourself. Go find your own sound to get your name out there.

T.H.E – Thank you Sandro for taking the time out and doing this interview with us! Congratulations on the release of “Symphony” and all the very best in your future endeavours. :)

Sandro Silva – Not a problem, thanks for this interview and thanks for the nice words on Symphony!
