A$AP Rocky just made one of his biggest dreams come true, sharing the screen with Denzel Washington.
The rapper-turned-actor stars in Highest 2 Lowest, a new neo-noir crime thriller, and he’s not even pretending to be chill about it. Rocky admitted that acting next to Denzel was surreal and incredibly hard to process in the moment.
“It was like a f****** dream come true,” he told Variety. “It was crazy, it’s f****** Denzel, man.” A$AP Rocky and Denzel Washington teaming up? Yeah, that’s the kind of duo no one saw coming, but now we all need to see. Rocky confessed that he had to hold back from totally fanboying during the entire shoot, even though he’s a star in his own right.
He grew up watching Malcolm X, Juice, and Moonwalker, and said seeing Denzel for the first time in Malcolm X left a lasting impact. That love for film and acting is now coming full circle for him, and his excitement about working with one of his idols is absolutely real.
Aside from Highest 2 Lowest, A$AP Rocky also appears in If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, a heartfelt drama where he acts alongside Rose Byrne, Conan O’Brien, and Danielle Macdonald. That film, about a mother dealing with her child’s mysterious illness, really hit home for Rocky, who said, “That film is for all the moms across the world. It’s so hard for women.”
And speaking of family, Rocky and Rihanna are building their own. They’ve got two kids, RZA and Riot, and a third one on the way. Rocky’s got a refreshingly honest take on fatherhood. “People look at dads like we’re supposed to fix cars or climb up on the roof, but I’m not doing any of that,” he said. “I’m trying to spend as much time with my little ones when I’m not on phone calls all day.”
Even with acting and music in full swing, he’s focused on being present. A$AP Rocky and Denzel Washington might be making movie magic on-screen, but behind the scenes, Rocky’s balancing it all, artist, actor, and dad mode in full force.
