Sex and the City is deemed by fans as one of the most groundbreaking, iconic, revolutionary shows on television.
And Just Like That, on the other hand, is… well, not. While the original HBO series which aired in 1997 and ran till 2004 broke barriers with its empowering female characters and daring storylines, the reboot series feels like a passionless cash grab. Part of the hollowness and uninspired essence of And Just Like That has to do with the serious continuity issues that keep plaguing the show.
It seems like even casual fans of both SATC and AJLT are able to pick up on the lack of consistency from the writers, to the point where the reboot feels just plain messy. Furthermore, it seems to disrespect the original series as well as the devoted fans of Sex and the City, who pay close attention to every detail.
It’s a genuine problem that hopefully gets fixed during the third season of And Just Like That, which premieres May 29th, 2025. With this in mind, let’s take a look back at some of the most glaring continuity errors in And Just Like That, which just feels like lazy writing at this point.
LTW’s Father, Dead or Alive?
In season 1 of And Just Like That, LTW gives a gut-wrenching monologue about how devastated she was following the death of her father. It was a great way for fans to learn more about Charlotte’s new BFF, offering a vulnerable peek into her experience. Yet all that heartache seemed to be forgotten in season 2 of And Just Like That, when Bam! LTW’s father showed up as a major part of the episode.
Hmm… maybe the writers on AJLT needed another cup of coffee that day?
Che’s Secret Marriage Discovery
In season 1 of And Just Like That, Miranda pursued a whirlwind romance with Che Diaz, played by Sarah Ramirez. So wrapped up in her emotions and the excitement of the newfound relationship, Miranda failed to tell Che about the fact that she was still married to Steve. When Che found out, it caused a huge argument that left a massive rift between them. How could Miranda be married that whole time without telling Che? How, indeed.
Yet Che’s anger towards Miranda in that moment turned out to be for nothing, because as we learned in season 2 of And Just Like That, Che had been married the whole time, as well! When Miranda understandably felt thrown off by this news, Che downplayed the whole situation and essentially gaslit Miranda for having concerns. Um, what? Isn’t this marital deception the exact reason the two had such strain in season 1?
Harry’s Mother’s Death
On And Just Like That, Harry Goldenblatt mentions how his mother died 10 years ago. But any Sex and the City fan knows the math ain’t mathin’ because Harry’s mother had already passed away in the original series, which most definitely aired over two decades back. What’s going on, writers?
Carrie Bradshaw, The Sudden Prude?
Carrie has a conflict in season 2 of And Just Like That. The writer/podcaster extraordinaire is at a crossroads because she feels uncomfortable with discussing clinical body parts for a sponsored ad on her podcast. To each their own, but there’s only one (glaring) problem, here… Carrie Bradshaw’s ENTIRE career on Sex and the City is writing as a sex columnist. The fact that she’s now uncomfortable talking about anything related to the subject just feels so inconsistent to the character we’ve grown to know on the original HBO series.
What gives, AJLT writers? You guys good?
