Marvel fans, brace yourselves: Avengers: Doomsday is shaping up to be the most ambitious crossover since, well, ever, and Anthony Mackie says it’s going to feel like classic MCU magic all over again.
In a new interview with IGN, the Captain America: Brave New World star (aka Sam Wilson/Falcon) revealed that production is kicking off soon and the energy around the set is electric.
“We’re getting the band back together,” Mackie teased. “With the script and having the Russo brothers back, it’s going to be great. It’s going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had.”
Yes, you read that right, the Russo brothers are back.
Add that to the fact that Tom Hiddleston is returning as Loki, Robert Downey Jr. is reportedly playing a variant of Doctor Doom, and we’ve got an Avengers film that’s not just high stakes, it’s multiverse madness dialed to 11.
Hiddleston, always cryptic but clearly hyped, said he’s “very, very excited” to revisit Loki, calling the role an “extraordinary chapter” of his life. And that chapter? Not closed yet.
But the Avengers: Doomsday cast list doesn’t stop there. In a wild twist that would’ve seemed impossible a few years ago, Alan Cumming is back as Nightcrawler for the first time since 2003’s X2: X-Men United. This time, with a streamlined 90-minute makeup process instead of the original four-and-a-half-hour ordeal.
“I’m going back to being a 60-year-old superhero,” Cumming told Collider. “And everyone seems really lovely.”
Joining him are other X-Men legends like Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden, Kelsey Grammer, and Rebecca Romijn. It’s literally the multiversal mutant reunion fans have been dreaming of.
Even Channing Tatum, who finally suited up as Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine, is back for the chaos. Or maybe just a cameo. “All I was guaranteed was a chair,” he joked. “It wasn’t even clear if I was Gambit.”
Avengers: Doomsday will bring together the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and X-Men in one battle to stop Doctor Doom, played by none other than Downey Jr., a full-circle twist that’s either genius or madness (or both).
This mega-event will pave the way for Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027, and it’s already sounding like Endgame on steroids.
If you’ve been missing that MCU magic, Doomsday might just deliver the emotional highs, team-up insanity, and jaw-dropping moments that got you hooked in the first place.
Get ready. Marvel’s bringing the nostalgia, and the big guns.
