Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, co-stars of the 2023 rom-com Anyone but You, are back in the spotlight and no, it’s not for a sequel.
The Hollywood rumor mill is spinning again after Sweeney’s recent appearance at Powell’s sister’s wedding, just days after reports emerged that she had split from her longtime fiancé, Jonathan Davino.
The wedding, which took place in Texas last weekend, has fans drawing parallels to the plot of their hit film, where, yes, Sweeney’s on-screen sister marries one of Powell’s best friends. Sweeney was photographed with the Powell family and even dined with Glen and John Stamos during the festivities, setting the internet ablaze with speculation.
Last week, Us Weekly reported that Sweeney and Davino had called off their engagement, citing “major issues.” A source later told People that Sweeney “didn’t feel right” about their upcoming wedding and that her demanding career was a major factor. The source added, “They didn’t split because there’s no love. They split because she just wants to focus on her career right now.”
Meanwhile, Powell’s mother, Cyndy Powell, addressed the speculation directly in a statement to the Daily Mail: “They’re definitely not together. Sydney is really close friends with our family. Nothing is going on behind closed doors.” She added, “I just want someone who loves Glen unconditionally and that he loves back. That’s all that matters.”
Sweeney and Powell have both been candid about how they leaned into the chemistry rumors during their press tour last year, but repeatedly emphasized their friendship. “We leaned into the chemistry, we leaned into the fun, and the movie benefited,” Powell told Vanity Fair in 2024. Sweeney echoed the sentiment in November: “We call each other about projects all the time. We’re just very supportive of each other’s careers.”
While the rumors are familiar, the context is new. Sweeney is newly single, and both stars remain hot property in Hollywood. She’s gearing up for season 3 of Euphoria, a Housemaid adaptation, and a Christy Martin biopic. Powell’s slate is also packed, meaning the two are more “booked and busy” than “boyfriend and girlfriend.”
Still, the sight of the two reconnecting at a wedding, again, was enough to reignite the fire. Real romance or not, Hollywood’s favorite not-a-couple has the public hooked once again.
