Ashley Graham Says Fuller-Figured Women Deserve Fashion Spotlight

Ashley Graham is on a mission to make women of all shapes and sizes feel “sexy and confident” in their own skin.

The 37-year-old model and activist has teamed up with JCPenney for a multi-year partnership, and she’s using this platform to bring much-needed representation to the full-figured community. For Ashley, the goal has always been to move past the tired conversation about body sizes and focus on empowering women to feel beautiful no matter what size they wear.

“My goal has always been the same from the start of my career, to not make bodies a topic of conversation,” Ashley told People. “Talking about bodies and sizes is so tired at this point. What I truly want is for the women who wear this JCPenney collection to feel beautiful, sexy, everything they deserve to feel!”

Ashley is particularly proud of this collection, stating that fuller-figured women “belong at the heart of fashion.” She pointed out that the majority of American women wear a size 14 or above, and yet, there’s still a major gap in fashion that doesn’t cater to them. “Why aren’t we making clothes for the majority of women?” she asked. “It’s time to leave behind outdated ideas that fuller-figured women don’t belong at the heart of fashion.”

Ashley’s partnership with JCPenney aims to change that by offering stylish, flattering clothing options for women of all sizes. She’s committed to uplifting voices and bringing overdue representation to the full-figured community, something that’s been long-needed in the fashion world.

Despite the positive reception of her work, Ashley has faced criticism along the way. She famously became the first plus-size model to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit in 2016, but not everyone was happy about it. In an interview with Naomi Campbell, Ashley revealed that some models were upset when she landed the cover. One model even questioned the decision, saying that women her size didn’t belong on the cover.

It’s clear that Ashley’s journey hasn’t always been easy, but she’s been undeterred. With her new collection and her ongoing work to uplift and empower fuller-figured women, Ashley Graham is not just changing the fashion world, she’s rewriting the narrative on beauty and confidence.
