Aubrey O’Day is not holding back, the former Danity Kane singer has blasted Sean “Diddy” Combs for what she calls a “selfish” decision to bring his children into the courtroom during the first week of his federal sex trafficking and racketeering trial in New York.
Diddy, who has pleaded not guilty to multiple felony charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transporting individuals for prostitution, is facing a trial that’s expected to last several weeks and expose years of disturbing allegations.
But it wasn’t just the charges that caught O’Day’s attention, it was the optics.
Speaking on iHeartRadio’s explosive new podcast Amy Robach + T.J. Holmes Present: Aubrey O’Day, Covering the Diddy Trial, the 40-year-old singer slammed the music mogul’s courtroom strategy.
“I don’t know any father that would want their children to sit through that kind of testimony,” Aubrey O’Day said, referring to the presence of Diddy’s kids, Quincy (33), Justin (31), Christian (27), Chance (18), and twins D’Lila and Jessie (18), at the trial last week.
O’Day went further, accusing Diddy of weaponizing his children for sympathy.
“In my opinion, it feels like ‘Daddy needs you in court because Daddy needs all the optics to look in his favor.’”
A Long History, a Bittersweet Moment
Aubrey O’Day’s history with Diddy goes back nearly two decades. She was signed to his Bad Boy Records in 2005 as part of the girl group Danity Kane, created on the MTV series Making the Band. The relationship famously soured when she was abruptly fired from the group, and she later claimed Diddy pressured her to sign a non-disclosure agreement to silence her.
Now, years later, she’s using her voice to speak out, loudly and publicly.
“This trial is bittersweet for me,” she told People. “I’ve been speaking the truth about Diddy for 20 years now.”
The new podcast marks what she calls her “first step in reclaiming my voice and career,” which she believes were damaged by the mogul’s influence. She also expressed sympathy for others who have allegedly suffered at the hands of Combs.
“My heart goes out to all the victims, especially those who could have been spared, had anyone taken these claims seriously prior.”
She’s Not Testifying, But She’s Watching Closely
Despite rumors, Aubrey O’Day clarified that she hasn’t been called to testify against Diddy, at least not yet. However, she did reveal she had a private meeting with Homeland Security and made it known that she was in New York for the trial.
“I posted on my Instagram that I was here in New York and enjoying myself because I wanted to make it clear to everyone that I am not here testifying,” she said on the podcast.
Still, her presence and commentary have added yet another layer of public scrutiny to what is shaping up to be one of the most explosive celebrity trials in recent memory.
A Reckoning in the Music Industry?
The trial has already sent shockwaves through the entertainment world, especially following graphic testimony from other women and leaked video footage showing Diddy assaulting his former partner Cassie Ventura. Now, with Aubrey O’Day stepping forward again, the industry is bracing for even more revelations.
“My sincere hope is that justice will prevail,” she said, “and for there to be further systemic changes within the music industry to prevent all forms of abuse from those in a position of power.”
For now, O’Day is using her platform to call out the man who helped launch her career, and, in her view, tried to destroy it.
