Brian Austin Green is getting brutally honest about his past love life, and he’s not holding back, especially when it comes to his relationship with Vanessa Marcil.
On a recent episode of the Old-ish podcast, the Beverly Hills, 90210 star admitted that dating Vanessa between 1999 and 2003 was “very toxic” and not at all the loving kind of connection people might’ve imagined. Speaking about what went wrong, Brian said, “I had some major missteps … The relationship that I had with Vanessa was very toxic in that way. It wasn’t a loving, caring relationship.”
The actor shares a 23-year-old son, Kassius, with Vanessa, but that chapter in his life apparently left some deep emotional scars. He reflected on how it affected his identity, revealing that after two years, he barely recognized himself. “You’re kind of looking at yourself in the mirror, asking, ‘Who am I at this point? There’s not one piece of me that’s left,’” he shared. That relationship, he said, simply “ended up not working out.”
But when Megan Fox entered the picture, things felt very different, at least at first. Brian, who was married to Megan from 2010 to 2022, said she was “a breath of fresh air coming out of what felt like Vietnam,” comparing the transition to leaving a battlefield. Together, the two share three kids, Noah, Bodhi, and Journey, and while their relationship also ended, he seems to remember it with more affection.
Brian even joked about how things unraveled toward the end of their marriage. On another podcast, MISSPELLING, he laughed about how even small things like “the way [he] put toast in the toaster” annoyed Megan when things were going downhill. He chalked it up to the typical little fights couples have when everything else is already off track.
Now, Brian is happily settled with dancer Sharna Burgess, with whom he shares a two-year-old son named Zane. And if there’s one thing that’s grounded him through all the chaos, it’s being a dad. “I absolutely loved being a parent,” he said, adding that fatherhood gave him the purpose he had always been searching for.
From a toxic past with Vanessa Marcil to co-parenting with Megan Fox and now embracing a more grounded life with Sharna, Brian Austin Green is finally getting real about what shaped him, and what nearly broke him.
