Demi Moore admits she was terrified her daughter Rumer wouldn’t “make it” through childbirth after Rumer chose to give birth to her daughter Louetta at home. The actress opened up about the emotional rollercoaster of being by her daughter’s side during the waterbirth. Although the moment was beautiful and powerful, Demi was honest about her fears.
“It was really incredible,” Demi said. “Rumer had a home birth, and there was a moment when I thought: ‘Oh boy, I don’t know if she’s going to make it,’ like she has a different pain threshold than I do.” Watching Rumer move into her own strength and focus was an emotional turning point, as Demi described it as a “really extraordinary, beautiful moment” to witness.
Rumer, 36, had her own doubts leading up to the birth, despite her plan to have the baby at home surrounded by loved ones. In an appearance on the Informed Pregnancy podcast, she revealed how terrified she was before going through with the birth. “I was sitting with everyone outside, and I was just crying,” she confessed. “I was just saying, ‘I don’t know if I can do this. This is the birth I want, but I just don’t know if I can do it.’”
As the pain intensified, Rumer admitted she was overwhelmed but chose to surrender to the experience. “The contractions were getting really intense, and I start moving in the water, like some sort of sexual mermaid,” she laughed, recalling the moment. “I let go, I actually let myself surrender to what was happening.” At that point, her body seemed to take over, guiding her through the process.
However, Rumer’s birth was far from easy. Her daughter Louetta was born with the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck and body in a terrifying moment. “My midwife and my partner caught her,” Rumer explained. “It was the wildest thing. We had four hands under there, under the birth stool. I’m going, ‘Give me the baby.’” As soon as Louetta was untangled, she was safely placed in her arms. “It was the most ecstatic, joyful moment of my entire life.”
Despite the scary moments, Rumer’s home birth turned into a triumph of strength, love, and family support. Both mother and daughter are doing well, and Louetta’s dramatic arrival is now a cherished memory.
