Fans of Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves have taken the liberty of romanticizing the celebrity duo ever since they starred alongside each other in the 1994 hit, “Speed.”
Many people noticed how deep their connection was off-screen, and the fact that they’ve teamed up to play romantic interests on various projects afterwards only added to the “will-they-won’t-they” narrative.
But it wasn’t until 2019, that fans began to realize what could have been between the two. While appearing on The Ellen Show, The Blind Side actress stressed how “hard” it was to work with Reeves, due to her bubbling attraction towards him. According to Bullock, she developed a major crush on the John Wick star while shooting the movie “Speed,” and implied that just looking at him made her nervous.
Yet according to Bullock, her romantic feelings were one-sided. She professed to Ellen, “I never dated him.” While she would’ve gladly pursued something romantic with Reeves, Bullock was under the impression that her co-star didn’t return her crush. “I guess there was something about me that he didn’t like…”
Yet despite the tragic nature of the two never getting together romantically, The Proposal star is still able to see the beauty of their connection. According to the actress, she thinks it’s a good thing they never dated. By keeping things platonic, Reeves and Bullock have been able to maintain a heartwarming friendship that has spanned decades.

What makes the situation even more gut-wrenching is the fact that Sandra Bullock wasn’t the only one with a big old crush on her co-star. When Keanu Reeves sat down with Ellen Degeneres, he said of Bullock, “She obviously didn’t know I had a crush on her, either.”
When Degeneres pressed on the situation, asking why the pair never dated, Reeves gave the most diplomatic, gentlemanly response. “We were working,” he said, proving once and for all that he’s the most consummate professional in the business.

As Bullock previously expressed, a part of her is okay with the fact that she and her longtime friend never explored a romance together.
Despite their clear attraction towards one another, Bullock thinks if they pursued a relationship, they wouldn’t be as close as they are today. (No matter how much you think you’ll be able to remain tight with your ex-partner, how often does that turn out to be the case?) And because Hollywood relationships are notorious for being short-lived, perhaps it’s for the best that the two never acted upon their feelings.
Still, fans love to imagine a future for Bullock and Reeves, suggesting they’re a classic case of a “right person, wrong time” romance. Both celebs have been in long-term relationships throughout the years, so according to some Keanu and Sandra shippers, they just need to get the timing right.
