Diddy Desperate? New Lawyer Joins Just Days Before Sex Trafficking Trial

Sean “Diddy” Combs isn’t done shaking up his legal defense – just three days before jury selection begins in his high-profile sex trafficking trial, the music mogul has added a brand-new lawyer to the mix.

On Friday, New York-based lawyer Xavier R. Donaldson officially filed a notice of appearance to join Combs’ heavyweight legal squad, which already includes celebrity defense names like Marc Agnifilo, Teny Geragos, and Brian Steel – best known for representing Young Thug in the ongoing RICO case. Now, Donaldson, a former Bronx prosecutor turned veteran defense attorney, is stepping into the fray.

Combs’ trial is set to begin Monday, May 5 in Manhattan federal court, where he faces explosive charges including sex trafficking, racketeering, and prostitution-related transport offenses. If convicted, the Bad Boy Records founder could face life in prison. He’s been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn after being denied bail multiple times.

While the addition of a new lawyer so close to the trial start might raise eyebrows, legal experts say it’s not entirely uncommon – especially in cases this massive. “It’s not surprising,” said California trial lawyer Neama Rahmani. “A trial of this scope needs backup, especially if it stretches on for weeks or if appeals are anticipated.”

Interestingly, Donaldson shares an academic connection with Diddy – both attended Howard University, where Diddy famously studied business before dropping out to launch his entertainment empire. Now, decades later, Donaldson is tasked with trying to save it.

The timing of this move comes amid a whirlwind of developments. Just this week, Combs lost a bid to suppress alleged “freak-off” party evidence, with the judge ruling that the material is admissible in court. The case has become one of the most closely watched legal battles involving a celebrity in recent memory, with ongoing chatter about potential witnesses from within the music industry.

Diddy has maintained his innocence since the beginning, calling the allegations a “witch hunt” and framing himself as a target of a systemic takedown. But with the trial now just days away and public scrutiny at an all-time high, his legal team will have to be firing on all cylinders.

And now, with a fresh legal mind onboard, Diddy is clearly pulling every lever to avoid what could be a career-ending conviction. The stakes? Nothing less than his freedom and legacy.
