In a surprise twist straight out of a Hollywood script, Gigi and Bella Hadid have just introduced the world to their half-sister, Aydan Nix.
The supermodel sisters shared the heartfelt news through a statement to Daily Mail on May 29, revealing that Aydan is their 23-year-old sister from their father Mohamed Hadid’s previous relationship with Terri Hatfield Dull.
Born after Mohamed’s short-lived romance with Dull, following his 2001 divorce from Yolanda Hadid, Aydan grew up in Florida, completely unaware of her connection to the Hadid family. Raised by the man she knew as her father until his sudden passing when she was 19, Aydan later took a genetic test “out of curiosity” and discovered she was biologically related to the Hadids.
Gigi, 30, and Bella, 28, said in their joint statement, “We first connected in late 2023, and from that moment on, we’ve embraced Aydan with open arms.” The family hasn’t just kept it surface-level either. “She’s spent time with all of us, including our dad, and we’ve cherished this unexpected and beautiful addition to our family,” they continued.
The sisters also stressed the emotional significance of this bond, saying, “As siblings, we’ve had many open and loving conversations, with Aydan included, about how to support and protect her.” It’s clear this isn’t just a media moment for the Hadids; it’s a real shift in their personal lives.
They also asked for people to respect Aydan’s wish for privacy as she continues to adjust to this new chapter. “Aydan and her family value their privacy, and we fully respect that. We kindly ask others to do the same and honor her wish and right to her anonymity as she continues her life as a young woman in New York,” the statement concluded.
While Aydan might be new to the public, she’s apparently been known to Mohamed for a while. The Daily Mail reported that their relationship was over before Terri Hatfield Dull found out she was pregnant. Despite that, Mohamed, now 76, “always knew” about Aydan. However, according to the outlet, he hasn’t provided financial support over the years.
A source close to the family told the Daily Mail that Mohamed is “cordial and pleasant” with Aydan and that “there’s mutual respect,” but also noted that “there’s also discretion.” Mohamed was expected to attend her recent graduation from Parsons School of Design in May but reportedly canceled about a week before the event.
Now based in New York, Aydan is chasing her dreams in the fashion world. The Parsons grad hopes to carve out her own lane as a designer, stylist, and influencer. It’s not hard to see the full-circle beauty in that, joining a family filled with fashion icons and aiming to make her own name in the same space.
For context, Mohamed Hadid is also the father of Anwar Hadid, 25, with Yolanda, and has two older daughters, Marielle, 44, and Alana, 41, from his first marriage to Mary Butler. With Aydan now in the picture, Mohamed is officially a father of six.
Gigi and Bella’s openness about this deeply personal family matter shows just how tightly knit their bond is, even when the circumstances are completely unexpected. They didn’t just acknowledge Aydan, they embraced her, welcomed her into their world, and stood up for her privacy.
