The Sixth Sense star Haley Joel Osment has been arrested again – this time at a ski lodge in Mammoth Lakes, California.
The 37-year-old actor was taken into custody on April 8 for alleged public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance, according to a statement confirmed by Sergeant Jason Heilman.
“He was booked and is no longer in custody,” Heilman told PEOPLE, confirming that the arrest stemmed from two specific charges: public intoxication and possession of an unidentified controlled substance. The substance has been sent out for testing, and the results are expected soon.
Sources say law enforcement was called to the scene following reports of “unruly conduct” by Osment, who rose to fame as a child actor starring alongside Bruce Willis in the 1999 supernatural thriller The Sixth Sense. He was later released, but not before a mugshot was taken and a formal arrest logged by the Mammoth Lakes Police Department.
As of now, the Mono County District Attorney’s Office hasn’t announced whether Osment will officially face charges. The situation is still “under investigation,” and Osment has not yet been indicted.
For longtime fans, the news of Haley Joel Osment’s arrest may feel like déjà vu. Back in 2006, the actor was involved in a car crash and was subsequently charged with DUI. He pleaded no contest and has previously spoken about the difficulties of transitioning from child stardom to adult life in Hollywood.
During an episode of the Mentor Buffer podcast, Osment opened up about the personal and professional struggles he’s faced, including the toll of the pandemic, the aftermath of the WGA/SAG strikes, and even losing his home in the Eaton Fire.
“I had this very intense pandemic relationship that ended up going nowhere,” he said in the episode. “Then the strike hit, and that just stalled everything. And then my house – the one place that had been my refuge – was destroyed in the fire.”
